Congratulations on Baby 2!

I’d be fine with the visit. Last year, I was visiting a family member on an immunocompromised ward and the nurses all said that if there were no illness symptoms, then it was ok to visit. So, I figure if the cancer patients in a locked-down ward with no immune system are ok, then the babies are too. But, that’s only if MIL is truly symptom-free and not just downplaying her symptoms.

@cake2017: yeah. I am selfish about postpartum time though and did not even let anyone come visit for a couple of weeks. Including my parents.. I wanted time to settle in and get my bearings before I had to deal with overbearing personalities in my living room!

I’d say wait. I’m just getting over this year’s flu, and it is no joke. On the off chance that she had flu and not some other random virus, I wouldn’t risk the exposure for any of you. We were careful about washing hands, sanitizing surfaces— all the typical precautions— and every single person at our house got it to some degree. We had all had the flu shot, too. I’m sure she’ll understand. If not, feel free to blame it on me. :silly:

I dunno I would probably just ask her to wait because there is no real reason not to.

@SweetiePie: It's probably ok. I would have DH bathe DS's hands in sanitizer before and after the visit. If I haven't already said so, congrats on your newest addition!

It's probably ok. If t were stomach bug I would say no, but it's probably ok. I have been pretty paranoid with lo3 the first two months because I didn't want a repeat of the newborn with a fever hospital stay while having the other two at home sick.

@gotkimchi: @Foodnerd81: thank you! Yes baby and I would stay home for sure.
Good point about changing that’s what we do after preschool anyway.

My SIL canceled on her this week too but she just told me she’d also be ok with sending DS1 and DH so I’m being slowly persuaded.

I’d be ok with ds1 And DH going there. You and newborn stay home, right? If you are really worried they can change clothes and wash hands like crazy when they get home. With a second kid i just feel like they are exposed to so much more that the older sibling brings home anyway.

Or they could do something like go to lunch at a neutral spot that wouldn’t have her sick germs.

I tend to be long winded so I’m going to try to summarize.

DS2 was born 2 weeks ago at 36 weeks. MIL came in and stayed with DS1 and DH for 5 days while I was in hospital (CS).
I came home last Tues, she stayed till Weds. Saturday she said she was congested and didn’t feel well. Sunday I heard only from my SIL that MIL was in bed allll day Sunday with a fever (kinda annoyed she never told us, considering we have a newborn and she was with us).
We insisted she get tested for flu (it didn’t occur to her because she “had the flu shot” 🙄 and she said it was allergies 🙄🙄). Rapid results came back negative (though I’ve heard that can be a false negative).
We opted to not see her this week as a precaution and while I’m sure she was upset she agreed.

Ok so the illness peaked last sat and sun. She’s allegedly feeling fine now. She wants to see DS1 and DH at her house this weekend. Yay or nay?
