I'm at 15 days and I think his stump fell off about 4 days ago and there was definitely residue on his onesies since then. Today in the bath I think I cleaned off the last of the goo. We'll see.

I also noticed when he was crying that this white thing would poke out from his belly button when he really strained. I was worried about it but the public health nurse said that was normal and soon the tissues in there would close up. I'd assume that some stuff can come out of there all the way until those tissues are closed.

my LO had normal healing when the umbilical cord fell off but after a couple weeks his belly button started to ooze and had a fluid-like look to it. His ped said it was 'umbilical granuloma' and applied some silver nitrate and the fluid-bump fell off after a couple days. I forgot all about that!

Yeah I remember this happening too. His stump fell off right at 7 days old, but he had gotten bits of blood on his clothes/blankets and there was a little discharge that was yellowish and gross-looking. But I just made sure I cleaned it every time I change his diaper. I used water and steeped tea actually since that's what my midwife recommended.

I also remembering some staining too. Sometimes it was old blood and sometimes it was little yellowish. My ped didn't seem concerned at all.

I'm pretty sure that just because the cord fell off doesn't mean it's completely healed. My LO is 13 days old and we've been putting neosporin on it since it fell off about 4 days ago. It was bleeding/oozing just a tiny bit so we figured it was best to make sure it was healing.

Okay my LO is 10 days old her belly button isnt actually oozing but when I was changing her this morning I noticed what seemed like dots of old blood on the inside of her onesie. but when i look at her belly button it seems dry and fine. I even dabbed it with the alcohol wipe they gave me and the wipe stayed clean. Has anyone experienced this?
