i was also looking into newborn cloth diaper rental for when LO arrives. earth crunchy momma seems to have a great deal as they include a ton of stuff in the rental price! it ends up being about $85 for a 3 month rental and then you get $90 back in store credit. that is for the premium rental which is BG newborn AIO or similar.

We used kissaluvs fitteds with flip covers from the beginning. We used prefolds as well,, but I hated the newborn sized ones. LO is 3.5 months and I can still fit her in the kissaluvs bc they go up to 15 lbs.

We also took a few of the hospital cloth diapers home with us!

I used Grovia AIO newborns.

I loved cloth diapering from day one at home. They were so cute. By the end though, I was sick of their long-drying-time and was so glad that the pocket diapers dried so much faster.

Here's a pic of LO wearing his newborns, maybe at about 2-3 weeks old.

I was just looking at Kawaii newborn AI0's, for my next baby (my LO is 3 months old now). Kawaii have a lot of followers, and the newborn AI0's are about $4.50 each! I likely will buy a bunch of them and start from newborn for my next baby!

We are planning to use a diaper service for the first 10-12 weeks, which will mean prefolds and covers. I'm registering for the diaper service, but my mom said she will pay the rest of it if not enough people get it for us as a gift. After that we are doing BG pockets and AIOs.

We used newborn prefolds, starting on day 4 (after the meconium). It was definitely worth while monetarily because our kiddo was tiny and they fit him for almost two months. Next time around I might get a few newborn AIO for the grandmothers, although at that point putting on a prefold was SO EASY because they don't wiggle.

We used disposable until the BG 4.0s started working- but that was around 10 days for my chunky guy (born at 8lb11oz). They fit decently right away. I had two of the XS sized BG all in ones that fit a bit better though at first, so I'd maybe consider a newborn dipe rental next time!

I'm due in November.. I was going to do disposables until OSs fit until I read a mom blog saying she's changed up to 24 diapers in one day. Wow. $$!

I am going the prefold route and making my own covers, and bought 7 or 8 lil joeys AIOs for overnight. I figure the prefolds can be inserts later on or resold - I bought GMD which hold their resale value very well.

Diaperswappers.com' forum has lots of great newborn CD pictures & threads.

@Orvis18: Where are you renting from - online or somewhere local? That sounds like a great solution! (And for that cost, I wouldn't feel guilty using some disposables if I was overwhelmed.)

We are renting a stash of newborn cloth diapers and then using AIO and pockets after that (BG's). We'll have the newborn rental for 12 weeks and then return them and get our deposit back. It will end up costing around $120 but I figured we'd spend way more than that on disposables and I want to get in the habit of using them before I go back to work. I was worried I wouldn't want to use cloth once I got used to the convenience of disposables but I didn't want to invest a ton of money into newborn diapers. This way I get to try a few different types of diapers and see what works best for him. Good luck!

I was given the advice to wait about a month to start cloth diapering because you're so overwhelmed with a newborn that you don't want to deal with learning cloth diapers and doing the extra laundry. I ended up just waiting until my LO grew out of newborn diapers, which was two weeks. She's in OS cloth diapers and this way I didn't have to buy a special newborn size, and I do think it was nice not to have to worry about it from the start when we weren't sleeping, I was having issues breastfeeding, and there was already enough to worry about.

We mostly used disposables until LO fit a little better into our CDs. Next time we'll probably start much earlier with NB sized fitteds and 1-2 covers. Actually, I prefer fitteds and covers 85% of the time. We use Workhorse fitteds from Green Mountain Diapers and I LOVE them! Great price and quality product.

Hi all! I am planning to CD and am just starting to build up my stash. Right now I am planning to buy BG one-size pockets, and sort of just assumed I would use disposables until they fit. But now I am questioning that decision - why would I use disposables for several weeks when I am committed to CDing, wouldn't it be better for me to get used to CDing before I went back to work, why not, etc.

Doing a bit of research, it seems that most newborn-CDing mommas use pre-folds, Kissaluvs with covers, or the BG AIO newborn size. While I love the cost-effectiveness, pre-folds are never going to happen for us... it was hard enough getting my husband on board with CDing. I think the BG AIOs would be easiest on that front, but people seem to love the Kissaluvs and covers. (Cost between the two seems about the same, although the BG might be slightly less.)

Thoughts? Opinions? Advice? How did you handle diapering your newborn?
