So this is probably a dumb question - but can I just use my BG 4.0 inserts inside a newborn size cover? I didn't even think of that!

@Freckles: That is so smart, and makes them just like a pocket diaper. Thanks :-)

@MrsTiger: I prefold the prefolds into the covers, and also already have them folded if i don't have enough covers. I just do the trifold, and none of the fancy stuff - i never got used to the snappis.

@MrsTiger: I was motivated by this thread to post in the classifieds. I put things in groups and priced them accordingly, but if there's a bunch of stuff you'd like that i didn't group together I'm happy to change things around. I just didn't want to piecemeal sell one item at a time.

Thanks for the feedback all!

@Freckles: What do mean by "set up"? Just pre-folding the prefolds?

@ShootingStar: I haven't even got that far and have no idea! If you want you can wall me what you have?

How much do you want to spend? I've got a ton of fitteds, covers and inserts that will fit newborns that I need to sell.

I didn't really like prefolds and covers. We did a really inexpensive rental from Twin City Diaper Co. We got 30 brand new BumGenius newborn AIOs for 8 weeks for like $40. Totally worth it!

I didn't mind the prefolds. We used bummis nb prefolds with thirsties covers. If you already have them set up, then i find them no different from the AIOs!

We are going to try Applecheeks as a newborn diaper (we assume this LO will also be large at birth). They are pockets but they can also be used as a cover to help save on the number you need.

prefolds and covers have worked really, really well for us. we've used them since birth.
She is 14 months now, and squirmy, so diaper changes can be a little challenging, but for the most part I think the set up has been ideal. We've had one blow out in her whole life, and the only leaking issues were user-error.
We had 6 thirties due wrap covers in size one (plus 2 of their newborn velcro covers, which I liked a lot when she was tiny but didn't fit for long) and 6 in size 2.
2 dozen newborn size diapers which was enough, and then 3 dozen in the next sizes up which has been more than enough.

They are really, really easy. Simple to wash. Check out green mountain diapers website- she is a big fan of prefolds (and they are the ones we use)

I had 36 prefolds, six XS Thirsties covers, and six Size 1 Thirsties covers. My LO didn't really like cotton diapers (she screamed every time she peed). I saved 12 of them to use as burp cloths and gifted the rest to a friend who wanted to try cloth diapering. Have you thought about a NB diaper rental?

I had 5 newborn rumparooz covers (I would suggest aplix with a newborn, way easier!), 2 snappis, and 20 prefolds. I started using them when LO was about 2 weeks old, and they fit until about 3 months, and I thought they were easy to use. We did use disposables at night for the first month and a half.

ETA: while prefolds are cheaper to start, I feel like they don't have very good resale value, so you might be able to recoup more of your costs with AIOs or other type. Something to consider!

I had 2 Snappi fasteners, 24 prefolds and 6 Thirsties covers. I had other diapers that I wanted to use but LO 2 had really sensitive skin the first few months and microfiber wasn't an option. The prefolds were fine but I didn't like using them outside of the house so we also used disposables.

We have used cloth diapers for DD #1 starting at around 2 months. We use Bumgenius 4.0's and have really them.

I'm now pregnant with baby #2, and considering cloth diapering this baby from the start. This will probably be our last LO, so I was thinking of doing prefolds and covers since that seems to be the cheapest option.

Those of you that have used prefolds / covers on a newborn - do you feel like it was worth it? How much harder is it than pocket diapers? And how many did you need?

Thanks!
