I wish I had more NB stuff! At 3 1/2 weeks our LO is still very much in NB dipes and clothes. Sometimes I try to put her in a 3m or 0-3m outfit and she is swimming in it. We are planning on starting size 1 dipes next week when she should be about 9 lbs. she was 7,1 at birth and is 8,8 now. I imagine she will be in NB clothes at least another week. I will say I have managed with the small amount of NB stuff I have by doing laundry about every other day.

I had the same internal debate! I bought a small pack of NB diapers. A LOT of friends said they used NB clothes, so I bought one nice new going home outfit, and then a box of used NB clothes. I think having a few (and then going out and buying some if you do need them) will work- or buy a bunch and only wash a few, so you can return.

LO started using cloth diapers at 2 weeks so I have no advice on that, but he was 8lbs, 12oz at birth and only fit into NB clothes for a week, maybe 2, and 0-3 fit him almost right away. So it really depends on how big your baby is at birth.

DD is still in NB clothing and diapers, and is seven weeks old. She was 6lbs 14 oz at birth, but dropped 10% of her birth weight that first week. She was 9lbs 12 oz on Tuesday. I expect another weekor two before we move up to 0-3 clothing and size 1 dipes. However, LO is quite a petite baby. I shopped for more NB sizes after she was born. As a summer baby, we needed more airy dresses that didn't fall right off her shoulders.

LO was 5lbs 13oz at birth and lived in newborn clothes and diapers for 2+ months. I didn't like having to do laundry every single day so I'm stocking up on more newborn clothes for LO2 who is currently measuring small at 3lbs 1oz at 31 weeks.

I thought we wouldn't use newborn stuff so only had one pack of NB diapers and a few NB onesies. I was so wrong!! DS was 7lb 14 oz and while that is pretty average, it is so much tinier in real life than I had imagined. Next time I'll stock up on a couple cases of NB diapers and have more onesies/sleepers on hand. You won't want to do laundry those first few weeks so it would have been nice to not have to. I also wasn't in the mood to shop (even online) for newborn stuff after he was born, but some women bounce back from their delivery faster than I did.

we used diapers for a while. at least 1 - 2 big packs i think. he grew out of the clothes fairly quick and at that time, he pretty much only wore sleepers. i only had one NB sleeper actually so he wore it unless it was dirty then wore the 0-3 months ones. they were a big big, but it was ok.

@ladybee: K was 7lbs5oz at birth, and she is just now outgrowing her newborn clothes and diapers at three weeks. We actually had to go out and buy MORE diapers and newborn sleepers for her. Now, she's too long for her NB footed sleepers, but the 0-3 months are massive in the body. She's long and skinny though.

Like others, it depends on how big your baby is. DS was 8# 13 oz and the newborn stuff we had was mostly too small. However we always found a lot of variability in sizing among the stuff we had. We were mostly around the house a lot and had him wrapped in blankets a lot for the first few weeks. We found we didn't really like dealing with the snaps on onesies and actually put our guy in t-shirts almost all the time. And like many have mentioned, he wore the same stuff several days in a row since he wasn't really getting dirty so we didn't need much.

LO is 3 weeks, 3 days today. And just this week he stopped fitting in newborn clothes and fitting better in 0-3m and some 3-6m that run smaller. We're doing cloth but have been putting him in disposables for outings and nights when they run out. He's still in the newborn diapers and they fit him perfect. But the diapers we have are size 1, so we've just been folding them down. So I would go ahead and stock up on diapers. :)

My recommendation would be to buy a couple, then see if you need more when LO gets here. Even though my LO was not very big, she was really long and couldn't fit into a lot of the newborn clothes.

DS was 7lb15oz and 20.5in at birth. He wore newborn footed pjs for almost 6 weeks. He was swimming in 0-3 months, so we just bought a few newborn sizes. It really depends on the size of your baby and how quickly they fatten up. I think a few packs of newborn diapers can't hurt since you'll use them up so fast anyways.

C was just over 8 pounds at birth and is still in newborn clothes. She could be in nb diapers too but we ran out and just started using the size ones. She's almost 6 weeks now and about 9.5 pounds.

For clothes I would say to not buy a lot but plan to do a lot of laundry. We go through the same 5 outfits pretty much.

Also keep in mind different brands and sizing- gerber runs small so their nb onesies are too small now but 0-3 gerber fit her perfectly. All other 0-3 are still too big. But C is pretty dainty :)

Diapers remember you are going to go through so many in te first couple of weeks. Maybe we were bad diaper changers but once she started pooping, we'd frequently go through two just in one diaper change bc she would poop on it before we even fastened the clean one.

Yes, we definitely needed them b/c our daughter was only 6 lbs 8oz at birth. I've heard from others who had bigger babies who didn't need them at all though. We actually had almost no NB clothes when DD was born, so we just ran out and grabbed a few outfits -- mostly footed PJs -- when she was born, and that was really all we needed for the first few weeks until she solidly fit into 0-3 M.

We used both for a while (I think like @Hilsy85: probably around 4-6 weeks), but that really all depends on how big a baby you have, of course! Maybe get a few inexpensive outfits and a smallish pack of diapers just to have, and if you need more you can always have some sent to you.

B was pretty tiny (6lbs 8 oz) so we were in newborn clothes and dipes for well over a month. At that age, you don't leave the house that much so we would just keep putting him in the same outfits because we knew he'd grow out of them fairly quickly.

As for dipes, newborns poop A LOT. Like a lot, a lot. We went through quite a few cases of newborn dipes. But, if your baby is born bigger then you might move up to size one faster than B did.

To be safe, I would buy more dipes than you need but not as much clothes. You can always return/exchange for a bigger size later.

We definitely needed the newborn diapers, I think he was in those for 6 weeks. The newborn clothes fit him the best for the first month, but we COULD have gotten by in 0-3 month stuff, it just looked a bit silly on him and that bothered me.

ETA he was 7lbs 11oz at birth, 7lbs 4oz when we took him home, and 9lbs2oz at 4 weeks.

I wasn't sure what board to put this under but I am heading to Target today to buy our LO on the way some onesies and outfits. Did your LO wear newborn clothes or diapers for long? Are they a waste of money and should I go straight to 3 month or size 1 diapers?

I was gifted a few packs of NB diapers and I few NB outfits but I don't want to go over board with clothes that won't fit for long.
