Take as many premie diapers as they will let you at the hospital. Ask every new nurse you see and ferret them away.

DS was 6'15 but got down to 6 bc of various issues. We got by on 4 NB sleepers and a few smaller fitting 0-3 (Cotton On and Old Navy) for 6 weeks, maybe 7. But we really didn't dress him in anything but sleepers for months. His street clothes collection didn't start until 3 months and we are now at 6 months dressing him more normally, but then DS doesn't go to daycare. Children's Place stuff runs long and narrow which works for our son.

@BabyPenguinXO: carters tend to be long and skinny....lo wore carters newborn for 3 months. He was born at 5'9 and 18 inches. We has some preemie but mostly got by with newborn. Avoid circo and gerber...they tend to be short and wide. Like @spaniellove: we also used preemie diapers. They are insanely expensive but he didn't fit in nb for a couple weeks.

@BabyPenguinXO: I definitely wouldn't take the tags off until seeing for sure that NB doesn't fit. Strangely we also realized once we got home that we needed preemie diapers, which were hard to come by! I think some babies plow through NB quickly as they go through their catch up growth and some are more slow and steady. Plus you'll get a lot of cute clothes as gifts!

Alice was discharged at 5.5 lbs and newborn was way too big on her for a while. My kids had weight gain issues so we had a slow start to growth. She fit into NB most of the summer. Maybe until 8-10 weeks?

My LO was born 6 lb 4 oz and was 5 13 when we were discharged. She was teeny for a couple weeks but packed on weight during weeks 3 & 4. She fit in newborn for about 4-5 weeks although she can still wear some newborn pants at 7 weeks lol!

I had a ton of NB clothes but she really only wore the same rotation of 5-7 sleepers.

DS was 6lb 4oz but his torso was small due to IUGR, and was born a few days after your due date. We had a few NB and several 0-3 rompers as well as some soft pants. At that weight though we ended up needing preemie size for a short time!

I'd get 2 outfits/day for a week. I don't like doing laundry too often :) And depending on the season, you may need to layer too.

How many outfits or onesies and pants would you have?

My son was 6 lbs 11oz and hit 9 lbs between 5-6 weeks. We are having a girl this time and will be delivering early she's measuring right on so we're expecting about 6 lbs give or take.

I have 7 sleepers but I plan to dress her everyday not just keep her in sleepers!

Thanks :)
