We use cloth and when LO has a little bit of redness I use some Angel baby bottom cream and it usually clears it up! We use the grovia stick for preventative.

This is not cloth safe, so we use a liner or use a disposable, but we use Bag Balm and it clears up any redness within 12 hours or so. The stuff is amazing...better than any other cream we tried. Haven't tried coconut oil though...I am excited to see that that's cloth safe! I may need to give that a try too :)

@Mae: We have emu oil because I'm allergic to coconut and I swear the concept works. Once in a while when I got tired of Aquaphor I put a little emu oil on there to help the area heal up. It works for everything!

@Mae: is coconut oil safe or you need a liner? I heard it works wonders for rashes but it wasn't from a cloth user.

@Mae: No, someone gave me the disposables, that's the main reason why I am using them just since I have them and he's soon to grow out of them.

It does seem like it's just because he poops so much, but it feels slightly raised and it looks like it could be painful. Even though he doesnt seem to be bothered when it's touched. Argh!

oh! And i haven't tried this myself but I've heard that applying coconut oil after every diaper change can help both with clearing up rashes and also preventing new ones because the poop just slides right on off the skin and doesn't irritate due to the coconut oil barrier.

More redness is common when babies are young because they poop so much. Even now if LO has a weird day where she poops 4 times, she gets a little red. So it could just be that. I'd make sure you're getting him dry before putting a new diaper on. I fan of LO's butt to make sure she is totally dry before diapering. Also, you say someone got you your cloth diapers-- were they used? You may need to strip and bleach them to make sure there is no bacteria in there. Or you may need to revamp your wash routine. Although if he is only red in the crack area and not all over the diaper area I'm less inclined to blame the diapers.

Our LO had a severe diaper rash in his first few weeks, severe enough that the ped sent us home with a large supply of prescription creams. In the end I think it was his milk allergy, but what helped us was using a fleece liner and applying Aquaphor religiously along with wiping with cloth wipes and water spray. (Meaning spray first, then wipe dry.)

Forgot to add, I change his diaper very frequently during the day, and minimum every 3 hours overnight.

My son is 3 weeks old and within the past week or so he developed redness on his bum. It's slightly raised and feels chafed, doesn't seem to be painful, and its basically like an inch or less wide along the "crack." I use cloth diapers during the day and honest diapers at night (mainly cause someone gave them to me). I have the grovia stick which Ive been using during the day with the cloth, and when it got super red the other day, I started overnight with the disposables with burts bees cream. I mostly use cloth wipes with warm water, and 3 or so times per day I am now rinsing his bottom with warm water and soap in the sink. I also tried to leave him open to air for a little while twice today.

When I mentioned it to the doctor at his 2 week appt, she said that's common cause their skin is changing so much. I don't know if she even really noticed the redness on her exam.

Basically the reason why I am posting is I wonder if this is the fault of using cloth! I know they say that cloth actually makes less rashes, but I just worry (of course, being a 1st time mom).

Honestly it's not getting worse, I just want it to be gone!
