@PrincessBaby: Same here with the goal post/touchdown arms!

I posted a thread a few weeks ago, because lo's first night home she wasn't having any of this swaddled business! Halo sleep sack for the win. It's a life saver. We have the easy swaddled version so her body is nicely swaddled, by those arms are free.

My 8 week old only let us swaddle her for about a week. Then she would fight so hard to get her arms out that she would wake herself up. It was such a disaster every night that we gave up. She wears the A&A sleep sack now, the thicker one, and she sleeps with her arms next to/above her head.

I had just bought her the cutest Woombie, pink with little ruffles for like $40, and also an Aden and Anais Easy Swaddle. So she wore each one like 10 times. Fantastic!

@SweetiePie: We have this! it's awesome. My LO has been using it since 2 weeks old. She loves being able to move her hands a bit, and was constantly breaking out of the swaddles.

Not all... DD was only swaddled for a brief period. Look into the merlin magic sleep suit later! That has worked great for us to give that swaddled feel but have her arms/hands "free".

6 days old and 5 hours sleeping! That's amazing!!! Yeah don't swaddle your baby if they are sleeping like that! :)

Both of mine don't like both hands in the swaddle... for us, we leave one arm completely free usually and they seem to do better with one free arm.

All babies are different, definitely do what works for you.

I don't think I ever swaddled my son with his arms in. He liked sleeping with his hands by his face, so I'd swaddle him below the arms. It made for a really easy transition to the sleep sack, too!

I remember telling my pediatrician that DS1 didn't like his arms swaddled. She said just swaddle him on the bottom with his arms out. I was a naieve first time mom and it honestly had never occurred to me! So we did it arms out from week one. I never even swaddled DS2.

I think it depends on the strength of the reflex...my son's was very strong and he used to smack himself in the head multiple times a night.

My LO *hated* her arms being swaddled from day 1. Even the nurses commented on it. There is no 100% when it comes to babies/kids. Not everything works for everyone.

Mine was the same but a bit later than 6 days...more like 2-3 months :-) We switched to this and he loved it! I recommend to everyone.

My kids never stayed swaddled and liked sleeping with their arms above their heads. I stopped swaddling pretty early on and switched to sleepsacks.

My 6 day old seems to really dislike having her arms swaddled. She sleeps OK at night- we got 5 hours straight last night, but only after I took her arms out of the swaddle. I know that babies are supposed to like being swaddled and helps them not awaken with the startle reflex, but do some babies just not want the swaddle? Should I keep trying or swaddle with arms out?
