I’d try the pacifier. My BF DS2 would not take one and we started to try around 3/4 weeks. He napped best in the RNP and exclusively napped in it until 5 months. Is she fussy when not napping? Could you maybe wear her for some naps?

My 6 week old has hated sleeping on a flat surface since her hospital bassinet, so she naps longer in a rock n play or anything with a slight incline. Swaddles and pacifiers are hit or miss with her, but they work a lot of the time. It's still definitely trial and error with her, but worth trying those two out (like others have said).

If she's waking up acting hungry after a couple of minutes, I would make sure that's not the case. If I were in the situation, I would give a bottle (of pumped milk or formula if I wasn't pumping yet) to test if sleep improved. If not, then I would go back to just bf and try other avenues, but if so I would talk to a LC about ways to boost supply and supplement in the meantime.

Also, I would have an eye out for silent reflux. My LO was like this, would only sleep on the breast and never more than 15 minutes at a time. Getting on reflux medicine made a huge difference. But the doctor wouldn't do it until I think around 6 or 8 weeks, when there were tons of reflux signs...

I hope it gets better soon!

Swaddled TIGHT in the RNP was the magic bullet for ours. But I agree to go for it on the binky.

Swaddled in the baby swing is what worked for us. Both of my kids napped almost exclusively in the swing for the first several months. I had it down to a science, swaddle baby, feed, start swing and place baby in swing while it was moving. :silly:

But I wouldn't be afraid of introducing the paci either. I've never heard of a baby having nipple confusion in real life.

E wasn't a paci baby at all, she would only tolerate it if my finger was in the nipple, defeating the entire purpose so I'm no help on that front. As far as naps E really liked to be swaddled for naps and I did so until she was rolling over all the time. If you swaddle at night I would give nap time swaddles a try.

@LadyDi: thank you and that's sort of what I'm debating is trying out a paci now, since she's doing well at feeding. I hadn't heard about *not* using paci for breastfeeding until this baby--they told me in the hospital, and it was something I never heard before previously

I don't have good napping advice, but I would say don't be afraid of the pacifier! Both of my kids breastfed without a problem and used a pacifier. I waited about two weeks before I gave my first the paci and with my second he got it right away. We never experienced nipple confusion. None of my friends who have nursed and used a paci had a problem either. My only other advice would be to use a swaddle, even if it seems like she's fighting it. Good luck! They change so quickly at that age that I hope she's napping for you soon!

My newborn (almost 2 weeks old) typically only falls asleep at breast or when carried around. Whenever she is put down at all, she wakes up within a couple minutes and won't go back to sleep/acts hungry. Atleast this is how it's been on and off. I don't exactly know what it means, if that's just her pattern ATM, or how to help her sleep! I am staying away from pacifiers for now (though I have them!!) and getting her established at breast. Maybe this is why I did not experience this restlessness with my first two babies, my 1st was on formula & always had a paci...and my 2nd breastfed but he "found" his fingers within first days of life. Idk. Any advice/encouragement will help tremendously.

I assume the sucking at breast & being held is her need of comfort...but how do I get her to stay down? I can't get anything done--and there's so much to keep up with with two loud and crazy monkeys running around/fighting all the time! Not to mention hardly sleeping
