@Portboston: Turns out to be silent reflux. He started having a lot more signs in the past couple days and we started Zantac today. Hoping it helps!

I read somewhere that excessive hiccups were a sign. And my son had them as well. There were a lot of them I never would have thought...trying to put their whole hand in their mouth was another one for us.

@Portboston: I do wonder. His brother had silent reflux but so far I haven’t noticed any other signs. He does have a ton of hiccups, but I don’t think that’s one?

Any signs of reflux/silent reflux? That’s what my little one did and he had silent reflux!

Do you have a swing? You could move that to your room and let him sleep in that overnight? My kiddo stays asleep in the swing better than anywhere else.

Also there is a sleep group on FB I love, called Precious Little Sleep (also a website and a book).

@Jennibenni: oh sorry! I probably didn’t read properly...I’m guilty of serially feeding my babies if they cry/fuss too much at night. I have no patience for rocking or patting 😂 and so will just do the feed until they zonk out.
Hopefully something works out well for you and you get some extra sleep!!

@Nutella: This is right after I feed him so I don’t think he’s hungry. Like, he wakes up, I feed him, and then it’s taking forever to get him back to sleep.

@kitty: I hadn’t thought of that, he’s in a sleeper and a swaddle. Maybe he needs a hat.

@smores: He is a loud sleeper and his brother was too so I think that could be part of it. But he definitely will move into crying if I put him down instead of actively trying to get him to sleep. Like the noisy kind of antsiness will turn into crying?

Ughh I’m just tired!

We dealt with this with my two LOs... (LO1 is 3 and LO2 is 4 months) usually around 4 weeks or so they were SO difficult to get settled after feeding at night. I feel I tried everything! Even reflux meds...but eventually we would be holding them upright on our chests in the early morning as that would be the only way to get them settled and sleeping.

With my second LO, we decided after a few weeks of this nonsense to move him to his own room where I wouldn't be able to hear the fussing. I'm actually not sure if he was awake when fussing or just made a lot of noise sleeping and I just thought he was awake?? Either way, with time and separate sleeping rooms, things seemed to get better...sometimes!

Truth be told, both my LOs were/have been terrible sleepers and I drove myself crazy with my first LO wondering...too hot? Too cold? Too many layers? Nap too close to
Bedtime? Over-tired? Hungry? Reflux? Gas? Wonder week? But really, this too shall pass and I will sleep again one day!!

Good luck!!

My first did this and I realised later that he was cold. I underestimated just how many layers a newborn needs at night! Could that be part of it?

Sounds an obvious one but is he hungry? I often find that’s the only thing that works! I wouldn’t worry about creating bad patterns, tiny babies need energy!! Good luck & congrats on the new babe

The last couple of nights, it has been hard to get my 9 day old back to sleep after s night waking. He just seems restless and unsettled. I will Rick and soothe him, put him down, and right when I’m almost asleep he starts fussing again.

I don’t think he has his days and nights mixed up, as he’s not alert or wide awake and he definitely is sleeping his longest stretch at night.

It also doesn’t seem to be gas etc as he’s not super upset or hard crying.

Any thoughts?
