My husband had to go and buy some smaller pajamas for our son. He wore newborn size for about 6 weeks, I think.

@regberadaisy: my LO was born at 19 inches and at one month old, she is still 19 inches. That is probably why everything is still so big on her. I think she is only in the fifteenth percentile for length.

@regberadaisy: yeah that is long. Cobi was 19.5" at birth and at 3.5 mos he is 23.75", funny thing is neither DH or I are short at all. I think it may be just because he was a little early.

@Coco Bee: We had Carters, Target, BRU and other hand me downs. I think it's because she's long? She was born at 21" and gained 2" just in her first month. And I liked the sleep n plays to be looser so that she had room to kick.

@regberadaisy: that is weird. Did you have all one brand? Carters runs significantly smaller, BRU does too. Those brands he was out of around 6 weeks. But old navy, gap, target- he was in til nearly three months.

LO fit into some of her NB clothes for about 3 weeks. She's long and skinny, so they're all baggy, but too short. Some NB outfits never fit her at all because of her length.

LO never really fit his NB clothes--I think mostly because he was so LONG, not so heavy. He was 21 inches, and 8lb 2oz. The newborn clothes might almost fit with disposable diapers, but with the cloth/hybrid, then they don't fit at all.

BUT, some of his 0-3 are too small, too, and 2 of his NB fit great--sizes are inconsistent.

Yeah I feel like the brands are so different in their sizing! LO was small an he will fit into NB sizes for awhile and doesn't even fit into some of his nb outfits yet. People gave us so much summer 3-6 stuff and I feel sick about it that he may never wear them....At 4w he is probably about 7 lbs.

It was at least a few weeks, DD was born at 8 lbs 5 oz. I really don't know why people say not to buy any NB clothes. I didn't have any, but luckily my SIL gave me some hand me downs. Some people must have 10 lb babies if they don't need NB sizes. Either that or they don't mind their babies wearing clothes that are way too big, but that really bugged me.

We barely had any newborn clothes! When my dad came to visit us after our son was born, he bought him a ton of newborn sized clothing. That helped us out sooooo much! We have plenty of 3 month clothing which I will need to wash soon as he is growing out of them. I'm a bit sad he's growing out of his newborn size. I guess I don't want my little guy to grow up so fast.

I had almost no newborn clothes either. I ended up doing an emergency run to Babies R Us for a few NB outfits to dress LO in until she fit into the 3 month clothes. In the end, I had her in 3 month clothes by the time she was 4 weeks old. They were still pretty loose, but they weren't falling off of her anymore.

@bpcmarj: LO is 13lbs but she's also nearly 25 inches long. Her dot on the height scale is like an inch above the curve! Lol. Baby clothes do not fit her right... I find Carter's and Gymboree fit the best though, especially the legging style pants because they're longer and tighter.

@zippylef: I have the same problem! Heightwise, LO is just about too long for 0-3 but she still weighs just under 10lbs. I think i'm going to need to learn how to sew in the future or her clothes will always be huge.

I think she was in newborn for 3 weeks or so.

LO was huge at 10lbs 8oz and even she wore newborn for 3 weeks. We're at the point now where 0-3 is getting too short but the 3-6 stuff is massively baggy because she's tall and skinny. It's so frustrating! I totally feel your pain.

Oh, me too!! I had hardly ANY NB stuff. Just two sleepers, one overalls outfit and a couple onesies. Someone had bought me a preemie outfit and it fit perfectly! He was 7 lbs 1.4 oz at birth, 6 lbs 9 oz when we left the hospital.
I wished I'd had more too. We had to wash his sleepers everyday, and they were still so big on him. For the first couple weeks, since we were at home anyway, we mostly just had him swaddled up in blankets, or skin-to-skin with me with a blanket on his back.

He didn't outgrow his NB clothes until about 3 months old, just recently. He is 3.5 mos and is in 0-3 and some 3-6 mos. The carters 6 mos are REALLY small so he can fit into some of those too.

I hear you!! Everyone told me not to bother with NB sizes, but I'm glad I didn't listen. I ended up sending my MIL out to shop for NB size onesies and PREEMIE size pants because I didn't like dressing him in loose clothes. He wore NB sizes until just before hitting 3 months... then he moved up to 3 month until just before 6 months.. etc. The only time he kind of jumped sizes before he actually turned that age was 18 months. He's always been above average in weight, but average or below average in height and he's very solidly built so he fits well into the age appropriate sizes.

My baby is 4 weeks 2 days, and she still doesn't fit well into newborn size outfits. She wasn't even a small baby (7 lbs 13 oz), but everything is HUGE on her!

Everyone told me not to buy a lot of NB size because they will be in size 3 months in no time... but man, I am regretting that now. I have hardly any clothes that fit her. I feel like by the time she is 3 months she will just be fitting into NB!

How long did your baby wear NB? When did he/she graduate sizes?
