I would do RNP in your room. We just transitioned my daughter out of that into her crib at 4 months without much of a problem.

So, for a spell we put our son in the RNP with a swaddle in a separate room (with a monitor and he was right next door). We did a thing where we cut the bottom out of a SwaddleMe so DS' legs were out so that he was able to be buckled into the harness in the RNP. His top half was obviously bundled up in the swaddle. Then we tucked a blanket around his bottom half.

@Truth Bombs: @ocean81: That was a concern of mine too. I was leaning towards keeping her in our room if she seems to do better in that. The rationale for wanting her in her own room is because of DD1. She is such a stinker at bedtime and constantly running in our room making noise that would wake DD2 up. It's a two hour process sometimes. Plus, she has always gotten ready for school in the mornings in our room and doesn't do well with a change in routine. But, she may just have to deal with it I suppose.

I am a big swaddle proponent so I'd probably try swaddle+rnp in your room with the idea that you'd transition to swaddle+rnp in her room or straight to swaddle+crib.

I would try to get her to sleep flat either in the swaddle or something else now while she's still not mobile. Once they can roll swaddles aren't safe.

I was about to edit my post to say what @Truth Bombs just said... I didn't feel comfortable with her sleeping in the RNP by herself. Also, when we transitioned to the crib, she never liked any type of sleep suit or sack. She needs to be free, haha.

I would give in to the magic of the rock n play and let future you deal with the transition (we went from RNP to Magic Merlin in the crib and it went surprisingly well). But I will give the caveat that I have never been comfortable with my babies sleeping in the RNP if they weren't in the same room as me.

Both of my babies were the same way. They didn't like to sleep flat on their backs by themselves in a crib or bassinet. With LO1, I was so paranoid that I just never slept and I dealt with her 4-6 wakeups a night until she was a year old.

With LO2, I said eff it, and I let her sleep on her tummy, which helped her arm flailing. At 3 months, we transitioned to the Merlin suit, and then she was finally able to sleep flat on her back.

At 3 weeks I would say try the RNP in your room. Whatever it takes at that point! My daughter didn't like being swaddled, but she was a rockstar sleeper in the RNP. We maybe had a couple of bad nights transitioning to the crib, but it wasn't bad at all.

@snowjewelz: I think that will be on my list as soon as she is big enough for it. I think we have a couple more months though! :(

Looking for some thoughts on what you would do here...DD2 is three weeks old and has started having a hard time staying asleep at night once we put her down. She seems to hate, yet desperately need, the swaddle. I've tried the swaddle me, halo, woombie, and love to dream and haven't found one that she stays content in. I've tried keeping her arms out as well but she wakes herself up immediately. After an initial fight, she'll fall asleep on us, but it doesn't take long after laying her down for her to wake up and cry trying to fight her swaddle.

She sleeps okay during the day in the RNP (after I transfer her there already asleep) or in the carseat while out and about, but the crib or bassinet has become a challenge.

Also, ideally I'd prefer for her to be in her room at night rather than ours. (I know this isn't for everyone, but there are a few reasons why I think it works best for us.) I think we have a few different options to choose between and I'm curious to know what you would do (or if you have other suggestions as well). I'm trying to decide if we should...

(1) Try the RNP at night in either her room or ours and see if she stays asleep there. (Even though we might have a harder time transitioning her out of it later.)

(2) Suck it up and commit to the swaddle and crib with the hopes that it will get better soon. When in her crib, we've been using the PNP newborn napper set in there to try and keep her feeling cozy, but would likely switch to the towel nest under the sheets if we stick w/ the crib.

(3) Move her back to the pack and play bassinet (swaddled) in our room where she spent the first couple weeks and see how she does there.

(4) Explore other swaddle options??? I can't think of anything left to try.
