Thanks all. I do think she has night and day mixed up... Even though I've tried to tell myself she doesn't.

@mungbean - I keep trying the paci, but she seems to hate it and I feel like I'm forcing it on her.
@mamacate - thanks for the tidbit on waiting one hour - we've definitely had several that are only spaced 45-50 minutes apart. I'll try to push them to at least one hour. She has gotten back up over her birth weight, so that's good.

So, did you just stay up till all hours of the night and try to sleep during the day? At what age does that have to end -6 weeks? 8 weeks?

Sigh... I don't think anyone really prepares you for the torture of newborn sleep habits (or lack of)!!!

No advice here. Mine is six weeks old and I'm not even sure she knows night/day. I think she's regressing, if anything. :( :(

Yikes! You are bringing back bad memories! It does get better, although I know that doesn't help much now--I agree that it takes a while (3-4 mos for us) to get to an early bedtime (7 or so), and a pacifier can be a godsend.

One thing that helped me when LO wanted to nurse all.the.time was that our ped said to wait an hour between feedings (end of one to start of the next) to make sure I filled up enough to make it worth both of our times. This was at the 2 week mark when LO had not regained her birth weight in spite of nursing constantly, and the change helped us both. Might be worth a shot? There were times where I did feed her at the hour intervals, but other times that she was able to take a longer break...

hang in there!

Awh, you must be so tired and exhausted. I remember how rough those first few weeks with a newborn are :( L tended to cluster feed in the evenings from about 5PM - midnight. She just wanted to nurse constantly, so we basically spent hours parked on the couch in front of the TV. Cluster feeding is difficult (I seriously felt like a human milk machine!) but it does pass... hang in there!

You may also want to try a pacifier if she just ate. Sometimes they just want to suck for comfort, so maybe you can see if that helps?

Sounds like cluster feeding. Also, at this age, your baby might still be confused about when nighttime begins. I think it took my baby a couple of months at least to start settling into a "normal" early bedtime of 7-8 PM, and I think that's pretty normal.

I am at my wit's end and am so frustrated... I'm hoping you bees can help.
My LO is 3 weeks old, so I know sleeping patterns are haphazard. We are EBF and she's been eating at 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. I feel like I don't get a break and we try to start going to bed at 9, bc she falls asleep. But we try to get her swaddled and then she's wide awake. And we try to get her settled and then she's ready to eat again. Repeat until midnight. We have made sure her diapers are clean, we've rocked, been in the swing, bathed...

During the day, she's the easiest - eat, sleep, change diapers, a little alert time. She eats a total of 10-14 times a day for about 3-4 hours total, each feed is averaging 15 minutes.

I'm exhausted at this point bc I can't figure out how to get her down at a decent hour. Is that pointless???
Any suggestions? Mom would like to get to bed before midnight...
