I really like our woombie! I use that sometimes with an a and a blanket over it. it turns him into a little burrito and I don't think he could roll if he wanted to. I like that the a and a blankets are so thin too.

Sorry you're stressing :(

Just roll down the swaddle blanket! Just like you would cuff up jeans that are too long....cuff down the blanket or roll it in...
DS's swaddle would always cover his face so I just rolled down the top edges and it was great...I rolled them all the way down to his underarms.

I've heard bad things about the Halo swaddle blankets (the sleep sacks are great though). We used Aden & Anais blankets along with the SwaddleMe velcro blanket. The hardest thing is just letting go and falling asleep, and trusting the baby to still be alive and well when you wake. Just remember that millions of babies stay alive every day, and SIDS or asphyxiation is the incredibly rare exception. If it makes you feel better, you could buy one of those breathing monitors that would set off an alarm if your baby stops breathing.

I LOVED the kiddopotomus swaddle me blankets (the velcro ones). My LO was small like yours and the other swaddle blankets ate him up. The miracle blanket was way too big for him until like 10 weeks.

We did use the R&P with our ped's blessing. My son cried every time he was flat on his back. The R&P / swing was the only way he would sleep until 4 months....

my LO rolled to her side too, but never made it onto her belly. i swaddled her in the A+A blankets. she didn't start breaking out of them to the point of pulling them over her head until she was 9 weeks, this past week! she also slept in the R+P several times and was totally fine.

I would definitely try another blanket. Your guy's a little peanut, right? The miracle blanket may be too much for him at this point, but a regular swaddle blanket or a woombie or swaddleme may work better. Swaddling with the arms at their sides instead of on their chest helps with rolling too.

the miracle blanket or the rolled up blankets. i was so scared to use the rolled up blankets, but i think it's perfectly safe for newborns and wouldn't hesitate to do that if my newborn were rolling.

i can understand your anxiety.... it'll get better with time. i hope the miracle blanket works! if not, i would give the rolled blankets a try!

@Arden: we have a Snuza Halo monitor -I just haven't had the energy to figure it out. I will put DH on that this afternoon.

I just pulled miracle blanket out of the dresser - we'll give that one a go tonight.

M slept on her side unswaddled for the first few weeks of her life. I didn't know what to do but the ped said it was normal. Normal or not, I didn't sleep much those first few months either. I'm sorry you're having such a tough time.

DS did the same thing. The nurses in the hospital had us just roll up two blankets and place him between them. Worked like a charm.

@Mrs. Tricycle: Oh no! :( I'm sorry!! J slept on his side pretty early on as well, I was terrified before he learned how to roll over. I ended up rolling a receiving blanket up in a "log" and tucking it in front of him on his bottom half, it worked to keep him on is side/from rolling over. Didn't keep me from worrying/checking on him though, can't help there, I think that's just part of being a mama ;-)

Can you put rolled up blankets to either side to keep LO on his back? Also I read that when u swaddle, the blanket should look like a v neck sweater in front, not a crewneck--there should be room between the blanket and LO's chin. We use A&A blankets, which are great for swaddling.

She rolled on to her side ALL.THE.TIME when she was a newborn too. I figured if she could get herself there then she was fine and we let her sleep that way.

Have you tried swaddling with a swaddlepod or the A&A blankets?

The Trikester keeps rolling on his side when we put him in his crib unsawddled. We're afraid to swaddle because the (halo) blanket keeps winding up in his mouth. I've also read all this awful stuff about sleeping in the Rock and Play - positional asphyxiation when their chin rests on their chest (as his does) in the rock and play and they stop breathing. I'm an anxious mess and have not slept. Any suggestions?
