@Alivoo01: hmmm. Around 6 weeks she was going to sleep around 11, up at somewhere between 3 and 5 to nurse, then back down for 4-5 more hours. We never do diaper changes at night unless it's poop!!

@Alivoo01: DS is 6 weeks old (tomorrow!) and he doesn't sleep anywhere near 6 hours unfortunately. He sleeps 3-4 hours currently but I don't foresee our schedule changing when he does sleep longer.

We bottle feed, too. My husband and I take turns feeding him at night when he wakes up. We let him wake on his own, and then we give him a bottle of pumped milk and change his diaper. If I am feeding, I pump after. If DH is feeding, he wakes me up to pump during and then I go back to sleep. We wait to change pee diapers until LO wakes up on his own. We do wake him for poopy diapers but he doesn't typically poop in his sleep anymore.

When he starts sleeping longer stretches I will just wake up every 3 hours to pump :)

Can you ladies give me an example of what your sleep schedule looked like for a newborn? What about diaper changes during that long stretch of sleep? DS is a pee pee monster even though we wake him up to eat and change every 3 hours!

I'm kind of excited to know that we can let DS sleep up to 6 hours uninterrupted. I'll still have to wake up and pump, but I'm currently bottle feeding then pumping so just straight pumping will gain me an extra 20+ minutes of sleep!

Our doc said it was OK to let her sleep up to six hours at her two week appt. She had lost 10% of her weight in the hospital, but by then she had gained enough that doc was OK with it.

@Alivoo01: when we were discharged from the hospital the doctor said we didn't have to wake her to eat anymore. As long as he is gaining weight, I wouldn't worry about waking him up. Enjoy the longer stretches of sleep, he'll wake up when he's hungry :)

DS gained back his birth weight 3 days after birth, but he was also born 3 weeks early. Should I just feed on demand now and not wake him up every 3 hours?

@Mrs. Markers post on Juliet's One Month Update got me thinking about night time sleep vs naps.

DS is still a newborn and eats every 3 hours. Sometimes, he'll wake up on his own, other times, I have to wake him up to eat. He sleeps the whole time in between feedings which is about 2 hours. At what point does he (or I) transition to letting him sleep longer at night without waking him to eat, and have naps during the day?
