Wow I'm so jealous that your nb is sleeping so great! As long as she is above her birth weight I'd be okay with letting her sleep for however long! Maybe just cluster feed in the evening if you're worried she'd be hungry!

She was in the PICU or a day for dehydration shortly after being released from the hospital because my milk did not come in (I think due to being induced at 39 weeks) which is why we are seeing a LC. The nurses at the PICU got me started on pumping and adding a bottle to her feedings to make sure she was getting enough. But here we are 3 1/2 weeks later and it was just a temporary problem. She was 7lbs 14 oz at birth and is now 9 lbs.

Awesome thanks ladies. I am BF and giving pumped milk several feedings a day after per my LC (she does not drink much more than 1 oz after) so I think she is eating and gaining well. She does not sleep as much as I expected she would during the day so perhaps she is just catching up.

I'd let her sleep
When DD was weeks old she didn't get back to birth weight right away and would sleep 5-6 hrs so I woke her every 3 to make sure she ate...other than. That sleep away and don't ask questions...lol

My daughter is nearly 12 weeks old and I let her sleep and she's gaining enough. She sleeps at least 9h each night and has done so for about 6 weeks now. So my advice would be to let baby sleep she'll wake if she's hungry.

if she's full term and gaining weight well and your doctor hasn't advised you otherwise I would let her sleep as long as she'll go.

I let DS sleep if he wanted to sleep, but he was also a big baby and had nooo problems growing. At 4 weeks he only got 1 feeding per night. By 6 weeks he slept all night and started sleeping 9 hours. Although, I should add, he was FF.

As others have said, overnight -- definitely sleep! and 6 hours isn't that different from 5. 8-9, yes...big difference. I just went with the saying "never wake a sleeping baby" and "babies won't let themselves starve".

My DD is an amazing sleeper and started sleeping long stretches very early. I let her sleep since she seemed to be gaining weight nicely.

I would let her sleep... Unless there is a weight gain issue, I never understand why you would encourage a baby to be wakeful during the night.

I let him sleep. At 1 month, I was only getting up twice. Once around midnight and around 4:30. He's never had a problem gaining weight and I have no issues with supply. At 7 weeks, it was one wakeup between 2 and 3. S did STTN at 10 weeks. Engorgement was a problem for the first couple of nights, but I quickly got used to it.

But I am not totally sure what that means for you. (Engorgement, mastitis, etc)

We followed the "hours of sleep with number of weeks" for capability of sleeping (4 weeks, 4 hours possible). If she's already able to sleep, it just means her belly is full, and she's cozy.

If she seems lethargic during the day, moving forward, I would possibly go back to waking her (because of blood sugar), but really, she seems perfect, and you're getting rest!!! :)

@youboots: My DD is 6.5 weeks and she has had nearly that exact same schedule since she was about 3 days old. I have never woken her up. She hits 6 hours somedays. Her weight is good, so I have never given it a second thought.

Let yourself rest up, mama!

It sounds like she was OK and would be in the future! That's great weight gain. I know some people are very comfortable with the "never wake a sleeping baby" notion. I would be, but my supply has always been an issue so unless I pumped, I would prefer to stay on a somewhat consistent schedule at least at first. If your supply isn't an issue, I say let her sleep!

i think letting your LO sleep for a 6-hour stretch is fine given that it sounds like there aren't any weight concerns. chances are she'll just have a bigger feeding at the 6-hour point.

My little girl is one month today. She hit her birth weight at her two week appt and is now up another pound.

I have been setting an alarm for 5 hours to wake her to feed her during her last feeding of the night, per my LC one five hour stretch is great. Well she has slept 5 hours a night, followed by another 2-4 hour chunk for a week straight. I'm fighting a little cold :( and forgot to set the alarm last night. She slept for 6 hours before waking me up. Our next dr appt is not till 2 months, and LC appointment is not for another week and a half. So I thought I would ask you all. When did your newborn start sleeping in longer stretches? At what age is it ok to just let them sleep? I've been reading old posts and read several books and everyone has a different opinion.
