My lo did the same thing. I let him sleep and waited until he was hungry. His ped told me to wake him every five hours, but also said he is gaining fine. I figured if everything is fine, why change it?

I'd let her sleep. Mt DD was like that and then she turned 8 weeks and started waking up a bunch at night. Enjoy her sleepiness while it lasts.

C was like that at night. She's sleep for 7-8 hour stretches and sometimes longer. She slept 12 straight hours for the first time at like 7- weeks old. I always let her sleep. She's a fantastic sleeper and always has been.

Also never heard of adjusted age for overdue babies, but it makes sense I guess... C was a week late and has always been a week early on growth spurts, etc.

As long as her gain is fine, I'd let her sleep.

During the day though, I'd try to keep her awake for a little while after feedings so that she can distinguish days from nights.

my DD was the same way! We got the okay at 3 weeks to STTN so I let her sleep until she was hungry and I woke up and pumped when I hurt. I did always wake her up after 3 hours during the day so there was no confusion of nights and days. Feel blessed that you are getting some sleep too! (I totally did the freakouts too, several times when she was sleeping so long!) 7 1/2 months later we are still a strong sleeper.

That's amazing that she can sleep for sooo long!! In the past if I woke up that engorged and my lil dude was still sleeping, I would probably do what you did and either wake him to feed or wake up to pump. Maintaining and establishing supply is still so important at that age.

As long as she has passed her birth weight, it is fine to let her sleep. I'd pump though to keep up my supply and relieve the engorgement.

I'd let her sleep. Maybe after 8 hours I'd wake her but I bet if you'd waited a little longer she'd have woken up. My lo did that once too after a fussy day though. After 3 weeks fussiness usually rises so maybe she will become a little more alert soon, maybe not. Just go with it. :)

ETA Oh but maybe I'd pump or dream feed for nursing purposes b/c of what @runsyellowlites said...I'm definitely no nursing expert but I remember reading a long time ago that early morning nursing is the most important.

@sera_87: Not necessarily! Idk if it makes a difference whether you cosleep or ebf (we don't and ff) but my lo never had a four month regression!

@runsyellowlites: I'd never heard of it either but have now come across it in two books. Apparently developmental milestones are based on age from conception, not age from birth. I don't know! I suppose it makes some sense though, when you consider babies born late vs. babies born early tend to acquire certain skills (eg. strong sucking reflex) more quickly.

I would probably wake her if I woke up being engorged. I'm all for night nursing though, especially in the early weeks since supply is still being establish & prolactin triggers are more concentrated at night.

On a sidenote: I had never heard of an adjusted age for overdue babies... I thought adjusted age was only for premies 4 or more weeks early. Hmmmmmm...

I'd let her sleep as long as she wanted if she's above birth weight. My 6 week old will go 6 hour stretches. If you wake up engorged, pump it off?

My DD was similar in that she would take never ending naps that I'd have to wake her from for feedings and would sleep 6-9 hour stretches at night. My doc was fine with her sleeping through the night as long as she was gaining appropriately. He had us wake her during the day because otherwise she'd miss feeds.
She was big when she was born which I suspect has helped her sleep well. Was your baby large at birth?

After three weeks my ped said to just let her sleep. She'll wake up if she's hungry. My LO was really sleepy as a newborn too. Not quite sure what happened to my sleepy girl because she's wide awake now!!!!

ETA: I let her sleep as much as she wanted at night. During the way I made her eat at least every three hours even if that meant waking her.

Ok, so I realize this is a problem most people would love to have. Please don't hate me!

DD is just over 3 weeks (23 days) old, we EBF, and she's quite a good sleeper. During the day I have to wake her to feed her every three hours, otherwise I'm pretty sure she'd just keep on napping. She's usually fussy in the evening and cluster feeds before finally going to sleep between 11 and 12. She has STTN for eight hours twice.

Until last night........I fed her from 7 until 8 (slow eater over here!) and she fell asleep pretty much immediately thereafter. She was still sleeping when we went upstairs at 9:30-ish, so I took her with us and put her in her bed. I went to bed hoping to get in an hour of sleep before she woke up to eat again. Cut to 4 a.m. when she was STILL sleeping soundly and I woke up, mildly panicked, covered in milk and painfully engorged.

I decided to wake her to feed her, as she'd been sleeping for 8 hours at that point. She ate, went back to sleep at 5 and slept until 7:30.

WWYD in this case? I thought waking her was the best idea because (a) she must have been hungry, (b) my boobs HURT!, (c) I chatted with my midwife last week and she gave the okay to let DD STTN (for eight hours) if/when it happens, but I figured I shouldn't let her sleep any longer than that at this age.

For the record, she's gaining well and has more than enough wet/dirty diapers. Oh, and she was over two weeks late, so developmentally she's actually considered to be five weeks old (obviously still not old enough to sleep for such long periods of time).
