@Smurfette: I think it's my overactive letdown that was causing it. She would pop off and milk would spray everywhere, and she'd often cough and choke. Once my supply regulated it got way better. Hope R's gets better soon!!

@lamariniere: This sounds totally normal. I used to get so freaked out by how much he would spit up! At 6 months, he has definitely decreased in amount, but he still spits up a good bit. I think as long as she's a happy spitter, no worries. FWIW, LO used to be super fussy after he would eat until he burped or got the gas out. The actual act of spitting up never bothered him though.

@Mrs. Blue: I just read your post, thanks! It doesn't sound like she has reflux, given your description, so that's a relief. I'm glad I know what to look for though.

@Mrs. Blue: she doesn't cry or pull off the breast while eating, she seems pretty content until she is done. She gets a little fussy after until she burps or spits and then is fine.

@lawbee11: this sounds like us! But she is a bit fussy after eating which is why I'm more concerned.

@Adira: thanks. She's definitely not a fussy baby. She's pretty much only fussy after she eats.

Does she cry when feeding, pull off, etc? My boys had reflux (I wrote a post about it that I can dig up)and spit up a lot, but they also pulled off when eating a lot and cried. Most doctors don't treat for reflux if the baby is gaining weight and happy, but since ours were in a lot of pain and not eating much they ended up on medicine for it.

@lamariniere: Sounds totally normal. I freaked out too. R spits up a lot. Someone told me on here, to take a tablespoon of water and throw it on the counter and looks like a lot more then you think. R is 10 months and still has days where we go through 5 bibs or 2-3 outfits. She is getting better, but still waiting for her to outgrow it.

My LO spit up all the time as a newborn. She was EBF and born at 38 weeks. We used to have to do 1-2 loads of laundry a day, and she would go through 4-5 outfits a day. She was a happy spitter, though. She'd spit up and then just smile or still be happy afterwards, so the ped said not to worry since she was gaining weight. I swear sometimes she would spit up what seemed like her entire feeding. Around 4 months it got better. She's 5 months now and I don't even remember the last time she spit up!

Spit up is totally normal for newborns! If she's still gaining well and has plenty of wet and poopy diapers, I think you're probably fine. Unless she seems fussy ALL THE TIME, which might indicate a food allergy or sensitivity of some sort, I think you're okay.

My DD is 6 weeks, EBF and if it makes any difference, she was born at 37 weeks.

She has been spitting up what seems like quite a lot after most of her feedings. She seems to spit up much less at night. For the first few weeks she had a lot if tummy pain and gas and our ped gave us gas drops which appear to help most of the time. I've been holding her upright during and after feedings and she is usually able to burp. Sometimes I offer a pacifier so she can continue sucking, but she doesn't usually want it.

I talked to the ped about it at her 5 week appointment and since she was up about 2 pounds from her hospital discharge weight, he wasn't concerned. But I'm still worry about it since she keeps spitting up so much. She has 3-4 poopy diapers and moderately wet ones throughout the day. Her next doctor appointment is in about 6 weeks.

Should I be concerned? Is it just normal newborn spittyness? When should I be worries about milk intolerances or allergies?
