@SeptMomma12: oh laundry, how I hate you. I'm glad she's a happy spitter though! A tip, try not to wear v-necks when holding/burping... it can be super gross.

@msplatypus: That's what the doctor called her today. Said she's definitely got a classic case of reflux, but as long as she's content and gaining weight, there's really nothing to do but wait for her to outgrow it. And do a lot of laundry...

Lo has always been a "happy spitter" Spits up a TON, since birth but gains like a champ. Unfortunately she is still doing it at 7.5 months.

Keep an eye on your diet. Oftentimes, food that we eat might bother their tummy. Have you eaten something in the past day or two that you haven't had for a while (since before she stopped spitting up)?

@mfa_lady: Thank you! It seems to happen most often when she was really hungry so I think that's what it is - she's simply taking in too much too fast. I gave up too easily with my son and really want breastfeeding to work this time so I'm really trying to stay on top of it!

@SeptMomma12: This happened to me and DD, too! Like you said, it was almost always WHILE she was eating, or right after she popped off. For us, it was most often after her first morning feeding or other times when she'd gone a while without eating (aka when my boobs were really full). I have a fast/forceful letdown on one side, and we figured out that at that age/size, she just couldn't quite handle it when I would get really full.

I'll pass along the info that my LC shared--if you do notice a pattern (like it happens often when you're full), hand express or pump a little before feeding her, just enough to let down and then pop her on. Also, try feeding her in a more upright position, or even in laid-back position (you leaning back, her almost face-down on top of you). That can help with the fast flow as well.

Good luck, mama! You're doing great!

@Kemma: How do you minimize the comfort sucking? Just pull her off as soon as she seems to stop drinking?

My big girl was a happy chucker for a long time because she took in a lot of air while nursing (ties and an average latch). We manage it by nursing only one side at a time and minimising the comfort sucking. It never seemed to bother her but it was a pain for me!

@whenoceansrise: Thanks! I know it will probably get worse before it gets better, but I can't wait for that. Spit up is just so yucky!

@SeptMomma12: yup, definitely both! I do think my sometimes forceful letdown or oversupply causes it, but it doesn't seem to bother him all that much. Sometimes it surprises him, but he gets over it quickly! It honestly doesn't even bother me all that much anymore- once I knew he was fine I figured it was just the cost of doing business with a newborn!

we dealt with fountains of projectile spit up when ds was a newborn- doctor confirmed he was gaining enough and i couldn't believe that he was still gaining while spitting up that much- mostly it became a laundry problem! he's 5 months now and fortunately hasn't had the projectile spit up problem for a few months!

@SeptMomma12: both! Often it's while trying to burp, but sometimes it will be like an hour since the last feeding and I'll get a surprise eruption- wtf I thought I was in the safe zone!

@MrsBucky: @Anya: Thank you! Do they do it during a feeding (like when burping), or is it usually randomly later? 10 weeks sounds like a very long time, but I'm glad to hear your kids are still happy despite the spit up. My son was a gassy/colicky baby and I am terrified of that happening again!

I am still getting fountains at 10 weeks. It was such a big deal in the beginning, now I'm surprised if I get through the day without needing to change my clothes at least once. It's so shocking to see all that milk come out of their little bodies but as soon as the dr confirmed she was gaining appropriately, my concerns were pretty much laid to rest.

My son is 10 weeks and has spit up since he was a newborn- literally the night he was born he spit up three times!. Does she seem unhappy? If she is happy afterwards and it's not projectile and she has enough wet and dirty diapers it's probably fine and you'll get confirmation of that if she's gaining weight!

DD is two weeks old and has some small spit ups during the day but also tends to have one very large spit up. Like covers us both in a ton of breastmilk. It always happens while I'm still feeding her - usually when we are trying to burp. She will start gagging and it all comes up.

We have a doctor appt tomorrow so I will know then if she's gaining enough weight, but she definitely has the right number of wet/dirty diapers.

Anyone else have this happen in such a small baby? It really shakes my confidence in breastfeeding when it happens. I seem to have a forceful letdown...I'm expressing before she feeds to try to help with that, but could it be related?
