We have a bucket hat from Carters kind of like this: http://www.carters.com/VM_RCLC14-1701I.html?dwvar_VM__RCLC14-1701I_color=Color#q=hat&prefn1=brand&prefv1=carters&start=4

I like that it has good coverage without being a mullet hat (like the iPlay ones) and the brim can be flipped up or left down. Ours also has a little velcro strap to keep it on his head which is very convenient.

I had a really cute but very girly one, so that's no help, but I will say the strap was unnecessary as a newborn. She couldn't pull it off anyway and it just got in the way and annoyed her. Are you looking for something to go all around or just the front (like, a bucket hat or a baseball cap)? I had C in the Moby all the time as a newborn so ours had a brim all around, which worked well.

Depends on how big/small his head is but I think iplay makes some popular sun hats? There's a style with the brim all the way around and there's one with a flap in back that comes down. I'm wishing I'd tried the second style, because LO is definitely not fitting into anything with the brim all the way around yet.
