@Nskillet: about that time too. But honestly I was ready to switch before that but I still had most of a box left. finally it was leaving too much of a mark I said screw it and boxed up the leftover NBs.

The second the diaper started leaking, we switched to one size up. It looked big on him but I think it did the job. Also, I also used one size up at night time once he started sleeping through the night, to avoid leaky diaper.

Leaks are our tip off. Maisie was out of NB in less than a week and out of 1s before she was a month old. Hopefully we'll be in 2s for a while!

I switched yesterday at 2 weeks after a couple of blowouts. We still have to fasten them really tight, but they seem to hold everything in. She's just 8lbs now, but the bigger diaper helps her bigger clothes actually fit her! She's so much smaller than we thought, so I didn't think that we would even need.more than the one pack we brought home from the hospital.
So far so good with the size 1's!

@Coco Bee: I think it all depends on how they fit on your baby. My LO is about 14 lbs, but she's still fitting in the 1s w/o having any red marks. So we have been going by how they fit, rather than how much she weighs.

In the hospital I used up a pack of disposable NBs and then the next pack I started using were 1s. Sure, they were a little bigger but they fit fine enough. The big difference I noticed was that the 1s had so much absorbancy (which was an issue for me at that time because due to his jaundice issues I was supposed to be recording every time he peed and pooped but I couldn't tell when the 1s had a pee....they'd absorb many many pees).

So, I'd say switch if baby is out-peeing the NB size.

I'm cloth diapering using NB sized diapers still at 5 weeks. It always contains the poop but he frequently out-pees them. I am going to keep using the NB size though. It doesn't bother me too much because pee isn't very yucky. I tried the one-size diapers the other night and they look huge on him but I'd say they do fit well enough to not leak, but I don't want to use them yet because they are so bulky on his little body.

@chopsuey119: charlie still wears 4's!

i remember changing to 1's very quickly with charlie -- the first 2 weeks. they will grow soooo fast, the 1's will fit in no time even if they are a little big now.

I don't remember when exactly but my rule has typically been size up whenever either or both of the following happens: 1) red marks on the thighs (LO has a small waist but chunky thighs) or 2) several nights of leaking (LO began sleeping through the night at 12 weeks so most of our leaking is at night).

I changed him to 1's at 2 weeks when my hubs and I noticed the red marks on his legs. The 1's seemed big in the crotch area, but they are working out so well. We are both amazed at how his 1's now fit him perfectly.

Question for other moms: Did your LO follow the weights associated with diaper sizes? Like NB is up to 10 lbs, size 1 is up to 14 lbs, etc?

My LO is nearly 12 lbs and seems to be outgrowing size 1s pretty quickly so he may be out of them before 14 lbs.

About that time too, I used up the rest of my newborn diapers and started buying 1's. I folded them down around the belly for a couple weeks, so they weren't so loose. Pretty soon you won't notice them looking too big anymore!

So, yesterday when changing my 3 week old I noticed the newborn diapers making some pretty serious red marks on her legs/tummy. So, Ive been putting her in 1s since and they are pretty big on her!!

When did you know it was time to switch sizes?
