@MrsRcCar: I asked my doctor about how I'd know if she was getting enough and she said the baby would let me know. Ie, be super grumpy. Are there any places where you can weigh the baby? I'm in Canada and our public health offices have scales that we can use. Also, the pediatrician's office will let me use the scale. But hopefully, you'll see that LO has gained tons of weight and it'll put your mind at ease.

I think NBs are supposed to gain an ounce a day.

What did your LO weight at birth? 7lbs 11 ounces (lost over a lb in 24 hours though)

What did your LO weight at 1 month? 9lbs 12 ounces

Was your LO term or Preemie? 41weeks+

How often did they eat? every 2- 3 hours with a couple 4-6 hour blocks.

Breastfed or Formula Fed? Both

If you're concerned your LO isn't getting enough while breastfeeding, you could pump a few times a day and offer that by syringe, spoon, or bottle. Dr. Browns with a preemie nipple is best for breastfeeding babies because the flow is slower and it'll hopefully avoid a bottle preference. You could also try to get baby to nurse every 2 hours during the day.

@Grace: Just a little because I can't measure what he is getting. They measured every thing at the hospital and I mean everything. This whole not knowing thing is so new to me.

My LO was 8 lb 6 oz and 10 lb 4 oz at 1 month. She was breastfed and ate every 1-3 hours. It really varied. Are you worried?

I don't remember what DS weighed when he was 1 month but I agree if he's producing diapers and satisfied after feeding everything is likely working well! It took some time before I was confident that DS was getting enough nursing but he always has.

Little E has a doctors appointment coming up this week and I am just wondering if we are headed on the right track in terms of weight gain.

With his big brother N, I pumped exclusively so I knew how much he was eating at every feed. DH says not to worry because we are having the right amount of diapers a day and he is satisfied at the end of each feeding.

What did your LO weight at birth? 6lbs 4 ounces

What did your LO weight at 1 month? 7lbs

Was your LO term or Preemie? If Preemie how many weeks? Preemie, 35 weeks 4 days

How often did they eat? every 3 hours with one 4-5 hour block mostly at night.

Breastfed or Formula Fed? Breastfed
