Both of my cats are "i want to see you/be near you, but not on you" kind of cats. They do like the baby's crib and stuff, but a firm NO and they go bolting out of it. I think they just want to check it all out. They have no interest in that room if I'm not in there with them. One likes to sit on the couch cushion next to my head, but I don't really anticipate he'll snuggle with the baby. One cry and I think he'll bolt

We have 3 cats, 2 are super social. Those two pretty much ignore DS. The one who isn't as social was interested in him when we first brought him home...she'd nuzzle his head when he was crying, and cuddle up next to us when I BF. Now she couldn't care less.

Of the two social cats, one of them was pretty attached to me. I started weaning him off of me during my pregnancy. It hurt me, but I started giving him less attention, wouldn't let him sleep on me all of the time, etc. I didn't want to cut him off cold turkey when we brought DS home. DH picked up my slack, though, and gave all the cats more attention to make up for me giving them less.

I have been worried about this too. My cat isn't super clingy but he is social and he LOVES other peoples beds.

I'm subscribing so I can read what other people have done as well! :)

@RescueMom10: I think, in a way, the pregnancy helps prepare the kitkats for pp. Pregnancy is long and we slowly change over time, not just physically, but also in terms of scheduling/timing, etc. as we adjust to deal with the demands of pregnancy.

And while I have had one--or both--of our kitties sit next to me while I was BFing LO, neither one of them has tried to cuddle up to her.

I am about to find this out myself. I am 37weeks and have 4 cats. One who is like velcro to me, one who is SUPER curious, the other two I am not as worried about.
Pretty much what you have done to "prepare" your kitty and letting him explore is what I have done too.

@MsLipGloss: That's good to know. Our cat isn't aggressive at all, but he's a little "up in your business" so I'm almost hoping he keeps a little distance at first.

We have 2 super social and attached kitkats. When we brought LO home (she is 17 weeks this week), the kitties were curious but kept their distance. My girl has been slightly lovey to the baby, but it's not like she is cuddling up twith my LO. My boy is not lovey to the baby, but is not afraid to sit close to me when I am holding the baby (and he is not aggressive toward her at all . . . just seems a little put out because, well, he was here first and all). I can certainly see things changing to the kitties feeling more comfortable around the baby, but the change is slow.

DH and I have a cat. He's awesome. He's around 5 years old (based on his suspected age when we adopted him) and he's REALLY social, and is really attached to me too. He sleeps in bed with us (because otherwise he howls outside the door if we don't let him in), basically squished up next to me. I'm 35 weeks pg today.

So far we've been locking him out of the nursery room because all he wants to do is jump into the crib and play with/destroy the mobile. I'll let him in there to explore when I'm doing stuff in there, so he gets used to the setup, but we plan on closing the door when baby's in there sleeping because I don't trust him to not cuddle up/snuff out the baby.

However, I was thinking about setting up our pack n' play (with bassinet attachment) in the event I want to sleep close by the baby. I would like to set this up in my bedroom, rather than the nursery (although we do have a bed I can sleep in there as well). But I want to sleep next to DH too, and I can't really have it both ways.

I guess my question is, have any of you had any super social and/or attached cats, and how did they respond when the baby came? Were they super curious? Jealous? Lovey to the baby?
