@skipper2010: even if you can't sleep it can be nice just to have some quiet time while the baby sleeps. Even if you can just throw on a dvd for your toddler while you sit down and rest or sit on the couch reading books, the rest definitely helps!

@bushelandapeck: Yes I'm so hoping DS takes a nice nap today. :)

@MrsF: Thanks for your response. I feel better after reading it, and I will try and celebrate all the mini accomplishments. So far I've spent a lot of time playing with my toddler while the baby napped, and that's keeping him in a good mood which always helps! I'm also on my second cup of coffee so that helps too!

Ugh - it's so hard at first! Two kids is no joke and it's hard to be patient with the older one when you're so tired. I would just say be kind to yourself and try to celebrate the successes in your day. I had to give in to a lot more screentime than I was normally comfortable with, accept any help that was offered by family or friends and try to get out of the house if I could. It seemed so intimidating at first, but even getting us all out and sitting in the food court at Target was good for morale and felt like such an accomplishment!

It will feel like second nature soon!

I was fortunate to have some limited childcare while on maternity leave and I used it to have the sitter take DS out of the house for a few hours at a time so I could rest with DD. He was also in part day preschool two mornings each week and that was a blessing. If you can't swing that, I would try to rest if you can during your 2yo's nap, even if it just means snuggling with the baby on the couch or in the bed.

I have a 2 year old DS and baby sister just entered our lives a couple weeks ago. Today is my first day alone with the two of them now that DH went back to work and holy crap am I tired! I was up with DD at 11pm, 1:30, 4:30, and then 6:30 when big brother woke up. Any tips on how to survive the day? Can't sleep when baby sleeps anymore. :/
