I had my baby 7 1/2 weeks ago and have been starting to temp again. My situation will not apply to everyone (of course) - I've had to exclusively pump and DH was getting up with baby overnight. So I am able to have a consistent stretch of sleep, roughly 12a-4a, so I take my temp at 4. I have heard from other charters that taking the temp at a consistent time after at least 3 hrs of sleep is adequate.

In the first 6 mos, IF you are EBF, and IF your period returns at all, it is unlikely to be preceded by ovulation. Slightly more likely after 6 mos.

@rattles: Hmmm, I'll have to keep creighton in mind. I've had a ton of faith in NFP/FAM but knowing that when we have a LO, 3 consistent hours of sleep won't happen and having heard too many stories of women getting pregnant while breastfeeding...it makes me antsy.

Also inexperienced but interested! We converted from symptothermal to Creighton method in part based on feedback from friends who'd had kids. We liked that it wasn't dependent on varying sleep schedules or temp changes and that there is specific one-on-one instruction while breastfeeding.

Totally keeping an eye on this...

I'm due in 8-10 weeks and have been wondering what to do!

I won't go back on hormonal bc & I know that while I'm breastfeeding my cycles will likely be wonky... how and I supposed to chart with wonky cycles?! eek!

I'm curious to see what others did as well. I don't want to go on bc and I can't handle condoms...

I would think that NFP or just temping would be difficult with a newborn who has you up at crazy hours of the night. So, your temps may not be exact so you may not be able to monitor your fertility as well as you did pre-baby. That might be why it doesn't seem to work perfectly after baby.

Ugh, I've doing NFP/FAM to avoid getting pregnant and it's worked great, but now I am starting to wonder about post-baby BC too. We aren't pregnant yet, but I have heard so so so many stories about people getting pregnant while still breast-feeding because NFP/FAM didn't work. When the time is right, we'll be rereading TCOYF of course. Any success stories or guidelines?
