@photojane: We went to Niagara and Toronto for our babymoon last spring. A lot of the Niagara attractions were closed, but here is the thread I started asking for recommendations in the area!

http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/question-for-the-toronto-bees#post-649207

In Niagara, the only restaurant that wasn't chain-y was Syndicate Brewery (would be fine with a kid, it wasn't like a bar at all). I agree that we had a lot more fun on the Canadian side. We hit some nice museums and restaurants in Toronto, too, if you make it up there.

Niagara on the lake is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend August because the vineyards are at their peak in August.

The American side is kinda lame. I live about 30 minutes from the US side. All you'll need for LO is a birth certificate to get back and forth.

Travel zoo always have crazy hotel packages for hotels near the falls.

Make sure to go to the canadian side, it's much better.
I love maid of the mist, as well as the tunnel behind the falls.
There can often be great deals for hotel rooms at the Casino.

Allow plenty of time to get back into the US, especially in the summer! It's worth it to go over to the Canadian side, but the re-entry lines can be murder, especially in the summer.

Have fun-it's so pretty here that time of year!

It'll be pretty busy that time of year with tourists and weddings. I live like 30 mins away(American side). It's definitely worth it to see it, but i agree, I wouldn't pay extra to stay super close

I second Niagara on the lake! My husband and I went to Niagara Falls on a road trip and we enjoyed it a lot but we were admittedly a bit disappointed in the respect that it is pretty touristy. There is a lot nearby but I wouldn't pay extra to stay super close to the falls since I personally enjoyed the surrounding area more. Don't get me wrong though it is beautiful and breath taking and definitely a must see!

@photojane: oh, and Niagara-on-the-lake is a nearby really quaint town with cute restaurants, etc. and Welland Canal is something you should see. Buy some ice wine....

@photojane: lots of wine tasting at the vineyards in that area! I've only been to Niagara for day trips on our way to Toronto, but the Canadian side is supposed to be more scenic.

@photojane: I live fairly close to the Canadian falls side. A couple things to keep in mind.
July/August is by far the most expensive time to be there.... both weekday and weekend so accommodation will be much more expensive then if you go in May-June or Sept/Oct if that is an option.
I have heard good things about Great Wolf Lodge but haven't been there myself. There is the casino for the adults, not sure about other activities for the LO.

We're thinking of going to Niagra Falls for our vacation this year. It's within driving distance, and we've always wanted to go. We'll probably visit Canada while we're up there, but no details are planned yet. We're thinking July or August, so Sadie will be 17/18mo.

So, to anyone who's been or lives close: Advice/tips? Anything I should know or consider while planning? Must sees? Anything to avoid?
