I think Vin(ny) is tough because everyone will assume his name is Vincent. Also, I think they only was it might work is if Steven were spelled with a V but obviously you wouldn't want to change the spelling given the circumstances.

@rawrasaur: Thank you! It is somewhat odd to think of since I call R by her full first name and her first and middle quite often so I am not actually sure if I would use a nickname. Silly things one focuses on I guess.

I know someone named Oliva who goes by Libby - this seems similar to me, so I think it works. As long as everyone calls him by his nickname, it isn't a big deal.

@MsLipGloss: @lindseykaye: I'm not particularly fond of Tripp or Trey but I appreciate the suggestions!

@Pink Champagne: I agree with you...I have mentioned that name in passing but it was vetoed. Luckily we have plenty of time (if we even ever have a boy!) and we do have another name but DH would love a III so I am trying to compromise.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: The middle is not our style...a common name and his cousin named her little guy it. Thank you though!

I appreciate the comments. I really do like the name Stephen, it is just a little bit of an overload. And since my name is quite uncommon I feel like we would be totally unoriginal. Not that this matters but when we had R (team green) and mentioned we might do a III if a boy a good amount of people told us to give him his own identity. Silly opinions!

@anbanan15: I have one too. My guy best friend is Steph. Some people get confused he is not a girl if I just mention his name in passing.

@grizz: Yep, I know alot of Treys.

Vinny is a stretch IMO. Could you use the middle name?

Vinny to me is a nickname for Vincent. Sorry.

I like MsLipGloss's suggestion. Or, if FIL and DH go by Steve, just call LO Stephen and let people know you're not nicknaming him. You're probably going to call him some cute baby nickname for the first year or two of his life anyway, I call my LO Boo-Bear or Bubba. :)

I think it could work but better if it were spelled with a V (Steven). Have you considered nicknames associated with him being a 3rd? Something like Trey?

What about giving him a nickname that is representative of the fact that he is a III, like Tripp. . . . ?

I asked awhile ago if Finn could work as a nickname for Stephen. The answer was mostly a yes. However my aunt got a puppy and named him...Finn! There goes that idea.

I am not pregnant but my husband would like to name a boy, if we are blessed with one, after him. This would make the baby a III. My FIL lives with us. Because of this I feel like we have a lot of Steve's and that adding one more is kind of redundant.

I was thinking of potential nicknames and Vin(ny) popped out. Does this work?

Again, this is still just hypothetical but I am curious if anyone else can see this working. If we were to have a boy and name him that I would probably alternate between calling him Stephen and Vin(ny).

Thank you in advance for any thoughts!
