I think Val is cute, and in my experience with my daughter, you may not have much control over her nn. Val would be the most obvious choice to others when you're not around, just a heads up. It drives me nuts that DD's daycare teachers and other people call her "harp" for short. But there's not much I can do about it so we just roll with it. A little boy in her class actually calls her "Harp Harp."
