 @Mrs.Pinecone316: thank you for the amazing work you do. our NICU nurse took the best care of us today explaining our baby's situation and encouraging us. I'm sure you are doing the same for other families. You must be an extra special lady!

I am a NICU nurse so I feel for all you mama's. Its a good reminder how the NICU experience can really carry with you, even if it was only a few days spent there. Glad all your little ones are doing well now.

@Mrs Green Grass: triggers would be the perfect way to describe it. It shocks me that I still remember it do vividly... The smell of the hand soap, the beeping of the monitors, the feel of the linoleum beneath my feet, it's such a visceral memory.

I'm thankful you've shared your stories, though I'm very sorry you've all experienced the NICU.

@LAZB: I am so so sorry for your loss.

@littleredhairedgrl: I hope your LO is late! That's so scary, I hope you've found a lot of support on the bee.

She was born early and had a pulmonary hemorrhage. She was only there 10 days, but it seemed like forever at the time. It was so scary because they didn't know what caused all of the bleeding, so they didn't know if it could be fixed. Thankfully she is fine now.

We did have another scare after though which left DH and I pretty freaked out. At 4 months old she woke up in the middle of the night struggling to breath. We rushed her to the ER and it was croup, so easily treatable, but it brought back NICU memories for both of us and now we still get worried over any and every little noise she makes

@Madison43: Thank you both. It is very hard, Q would have been three months old yesterday. It has been almost two months since he passed away.
It is great though that all of the rest of the NICU moms here have good results. I must admit, I'm a little jealous, although so happy for all of you.

wow all you ladies are so strong to have been thru each of your nicu experiences! I am 26wk2d now and on bed rest for IC with cerclage and just so grateful for each day we get closer and closer to our due date (July 17). Praying my little girl surprises all the doctors and comes LATE!

Me! LO was in there for 57 days, she was born at 30w5d...no major complications, she literally just needed more time to grow...she is now a happy healthy 13 month old. But sometimes I think back to those days and my heart hurts. I'm also scared to have a second LO (but I really want one!) because I'm scared of having to go through the NICU again!

Unfortunately, yes. We were in the nicu for 27 days, and our baby "Q" passed away. We actually had dinner tonight with another couple from the nicu that we made friends with while we were there. It's tough, because unless you experience it, you have no idea what it's like.

Just two days here. I feel kind of ridiculous that its over a year ago and we were out so quickly with no long terms effects but I still cry when I look at her newborn photos with all the NICU nurses working her and all the wires and IV lines and canula.

It certainly gave me a huge appreciation for the work the NICU staff do and I always want to give the new NICU mamas who post here a hug when I hear about what they're going through.

Similar experience to @creativemomma15: we spent 3 days there, I still tear up about it despite it being an extremely positive experience in the long run. We were very fortunate it was such minor issues, but I definitely find myself rooting for the nicu babies. My nephews spent 8 weeks in the nicu too, so until my second son was born last month, I had never dealt with a newborn outside of the nicu. It was amazing to get to keep my baby with me, I desperately wanted that since I was already missing my toddler very much while in the hospital.

We are! DS was in the NICU for 7 days. I know we were lucky to not have major health issues but it was still a very hard 7 days. I still tear up thinking about leaving him at the hospital by himself that first time and he is 2! It was hard when I was pregnant with DD too because I was so stressed about her coming earlier still and was scared of being in the NICU again. Thankfully she came at 38 weeks and we had a completely different experience. Anyway all that to say we are alum too!

LO was a preemie and spent 8 days in the NICU. Even though he's now thriving and meeting all his milestones, I still find myself back there sometimes, like it was just yesterday.

A fridnd's LO was admitted to the hospital and she was talking about the monitors in PICU and it just opened the floodgates of memories.

Our experience wasn't traumatic by any means, LO was a feeder-grower, but I still get tense and emotional thinking about it.

Are there any other NICU alums on the boards?
