@ballerinabee: was it because of immature lungs? They think baby e had immature lungs but she was 37+3. I asked if u had gotten the steroid shot if it would have made a difference and they said at 37 wks probably not...so confusing..

@MrsSRS: aww thanks for thinking of us. I was discharged yesterday. Baby E is still in NICU maybe until Fri. They took out the breathing tube but she still needs Oxygen. She's now under the jaundice light. Slowly improving One step at a time. The nurses there are angels!

My 33 weeker started on a c-pap, then intubated, back to c-pap, finally nasal cannula and then breathing on his own. It was a roller coaster, but he's a happy, healthy 4yo now!

It can be scary and overwhelming and a LOT of emotions to have baby in the NICU. Be kind and patient with yourself. Remember to eat and to drink plenty of water. It's so hard to remember yourself when you're worrying about your newborn.

I hope your stay is short, but don't hesitate to reach out if you need to vent / have questions / need someone to talk to.

Hugs & congratulations on your newbie!

@iluvboba637: Glad to hear it will probably a brief stay. I'm hoping she has a nasal cannula or a cpap? Not intubation with a breathing tube down her throat! We tend to think of 37 weeks as full term, but some babies like to cook until 41 weeks, so it can be a whole month early for them. Of course her wee lungs might need to develop a little more. I'm so glad you noticed and got her help right away, way to go, Mama!! Hope her belly is better too.

@Mrs Green Grass: @MrsSRS: thank you ladies.

She's still there and will most likely be for 24-48 hours. They put in a breathing tube, but she's doing most of the breathing on her own. The NICU doctor thinks it's just immature lungs and most likely not infection.

I had a 30 weeker, and we had minor respiratory issues. Another factor could he that nubain can cause temporary respiratory distress for babies. Hope it's a short NICU stay!

I do not have experience with this exactly...NICU baby @25 weeks. But just hugs! I know it's not what you imagined, but the NICU docs are amazing and they will take great care of your LO, hopefully for just a very short time. Don't fee weird to call a ton or go there any time you are physically able...everything is normal! Congrats an led best wishes.

Hi mamas - please tell me your experiences about the NICU and respiratory issues.

My 37wk +3day dd was born today (induced bc I have PIH). When I was finally a bit more alert, after being so out of it from the nubain, I realized her breathing sounded a bit off, like she was gasping for air every minute or so. So I asked them to re-examine her and they decided to bring her to the NICU to be observed for a couple hours. Then they ended up saying they're gonna keep her overnight.

Her "color" looks a lot better than earlier though but her chest is still rising and falling a but difficultly. They did a chest X-ray earlier so I'm gonna call ~11:00 for the results.

It was a lot of info to take in but basically she's in a bit of respiratory distress, so she has the oxygen in her nose and she has a tube in her mouth coming from her stomach bc her stomach is distended (this I didn't understand too much).

She also has an iv and they gave her antibiotics just in case but initial labs show no infection. (Note: my Gbs results did not come back in time so I did get antibiotics before I delivered)
