I gotta agree with @Dandelion: girl, get some sleep while you can!! Pump right before bed and first thing in the morning, then every few hours. A night or two won't beak your supply, this is your chance to relax and be a couple again, so enjoy ;) I love photos of your kiddos, but I hope to see some with your honey on IG! HAVE FUN!

I would absolutely plan to only pump overnight if you wake up uncomfortable! I mean, babies occasionally sleep through the night unexpectedly, so just pretend it's like that and sleep!

I had to pump at my little sister's wedding. I called the venue ahead of time and they assured me that this happens all the time and they had a room no problem, ask any staff member when I arrived. I ended up just pumping in the bridal suite, since it was my sister, but the lady on the phone was completely unfazed when I called.

@Dandelion: im with you on this. One day isnt enough to affect supply that much...i heard it takes 3 days for your body to start to adapt. Do an extra pump or feeding the next day to make up for it and enjoy the solid night of sleep!!

I have insane amounts of envy for you!

One for the night away and two for never leaking, how I would pay money to never leak! I would let things happen as they do overnight! Enjoy the no interruptions, you will probably wake anyways as you body is so used to it, so enjoy it being on your own clock! Have a great night!!

i would aim for every 3 hours as well. pump right before you go to bed and i was going to say set your alarm for once, but since it's one night and you have TWO babes, DO NOT set your alarm, sleep until your boobs or your body wakes you up. one night won't kill your supply. SLEEP mama! if it were me, i'd rather fit one more pump in during the day to sleep as long as i could. :)

@Dandelion: Haha I love you for saying that! I told my mom I don't care about the wedding - I just want to go to a hotel and sleeeeep. I'm thinking I might pump once in the middle of the night to relieve the pressure, but not do every three hours then!

@Trailmix: Thanks for the tip about calling ahead! That's a great idea. I'm planning to pump in the car during the reception if there isn't some sort of ladies' room I can find. But I might call while we're driving up and see what I find out. Another mom who had her LO the same day as me will be at our table so we're in this together, at least!

@Mae: That's so interesting that you get the same output! Eighth now I pump once at night when I don't breast feed and just bottle feed last night's milk. I usually get 4-5 oz at that session because they sleep for a 5 hr stretch at night. However to practice with my inlaws yesterday during the day, I pumped while they bottle fed. I only got 1 oz and .5 oz on each side which is exactly what our weighted feeds have shown! 17.5 oz sounds awesome. I wonder how much I'd really get if I pumped religiously for a few days, but that sounds exhausting!

I'll probably be flamed for this, but if I were you, I wouldn't pump overnight. But only cause it's one night and you finally have a chance to SLEEP. I guarantee that your boobs will wale you up when it's time to pump lol.

This is coming from a mom whose baby doesn't sleep great, though. So I could be tainted at this point lol.

So how many times/day do you usually pump? Also-- keep in mind that when you're not BF you will pump more! I used to pump after BF and would get like 1 oz at best. But if I pumped instead of BF I'd get more like 2-2.5 oz. So make sure you take extra bags :) I also agree with pumping into bottles and transferring. I'd not want to deal with new systems on the road (literally haha).

I don't know that anyone can guarantee how exactly your body will work-- but for me I've found so far that I can pump less times per day and get the same output. Before I started EP'ing I was pumping 6 times/day + bf twice/day and it sucked. I was getting like 10-12oz total per day from pumping and then figuring LO was probably getting around 2 oz/session from bf I was making around 14-16 oz total per day. Now that I'm EP'ing I decided to see what would happen if I pumped just 5 times/day and surprisingly I've gotten 17.5 ounces every day for the last 5 days with no variation! So I feel like pumping less has not hurt my supply at all and I'm actually getting more than I thought I would. I pump at (about) 5am, 10am, 2pm, 7pm, 10:30pm (I would do 11, except I don't want to stay up late enough lol).

I went to four weddings last year and pumped at all of them! Although mine were slightly older, I think 16 weeks maybe? Anyways, I definitely think you can stretch out your pumping sessions more than when you regularly feed them. I would shoot for every 3-4 hours, especially during the wedding/reception. If you pump right before you go, then once during, and then when you get home, you should be fine.
Also, not sure if you're staying at the same place where the wedding is but if not, I would call ahead and explain the situation. I found everyone was so accommodating and helpful, when I explained what was going on and I only had to pump in the bathroom once out of the four (and that was only bc there was a miscommunication about the availability of a room)!
As for overnight, how many times are they usually eating now? I would probably just pump once overnight, one night of less demand won't do much damage. I would also pump into bottles and condense them after each session. A cooler with a few ice packs should be fine for the duration of the wedding.
Have fun and enjoy, getting away for even 24 hours, you will come back refreshed and be a better, more patient mama for it!

I agree that you should pump into bottles and transfer into bags. I think your cleaning plan for the parts is a good one - you could also stow the rinsed/wiped parts in a Tupperware with a freezer pack in it to keep them chilled.

I would say to pump as often as you can. If you breastfeed overnight, set your alarm for at least some of those, so you don't throw your supply off. I'm definitely no expert on this, but it's what I think I would do.

Have fun tonight!!

@swedishfish: I'm pretty sure we have a fridge so that should work once we're back to the hotel. Hoping to get away with one pumping at reception and stowing that in the cooler until we get to the hotel. I'm worried about cleaning my parts too, but I got some pump part wipes and I'm going to take a sanitizer bag to use in the microwave. Hope this all works!!

Awww, mama! I would pump into bottles because that's what you're used to and then put the milk into bags. Can you get a mini fridge in your hotel room? That's what I did when we went away for a wedding. I pumped 3 times total I think...I just didn't have chances to nip away to pump more often.

Anyone have a good system for pumping while you're away from your LO? This weekend snuck up on me and it just dawned on me yesterday that I am LEAVING MY BABIES FOR THE NIGHT! (Why, why would I do that when they are so cute and perfect?)

Anyway, they are 11 weeks old and we breastfeed and supplement with formula after. So they are used to taking bottles. I've been saving a little of what I pump each night and freezing it so they have an ounce of BM for each feeding while I'm away. The rest will be formula.

What I'm more worried about is how my pumping is going to go while I'm away. We're going to a wedding so my pumping options may be limited to what's available. I usually pump into bottles, but I'm tempted to try pumping into bags. Probably should have practiced that though! Or I could pump into bottles and dump it into bags? Then stow the bags in my cooler bag. I only pump 1 oz on left and .5 oz on right (don't laugh aty meager supply) so it's not like we're talking huge quantities over the course of 24 hours.

Also, if I'm used to feeding the babies every 1.5-2 hours, do I REALLY have to pump that often? That seems crazy to try and do while we are away (although we are getting a car adapter so I can pump in the 2.5 he ride up) and especially at night when I could be sleeping! I don't have great supply so I've never really gotten engorged or leaked since the first week my milk supply came in, but I don't really want to mess around with that if I don't pump enough. And I obviously don't want to damage my supply further! Anyone have tips on pumping logistics for me?

And because no post is complete without a pic of my darling babes, this is what I'm leaving behind today.. What am I thinking?? They are too damn cute to spend 24 hours away!!
