I ended up going with this cute little guy from Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Light-My-Way-Nightlight/dp/B009UPUC36

I tried to look for the ones at Target, but none were in store. When I searched online, they had recalled all their Circo ones earlier this year as a fire hazard, so I went with this one instead. So far it's working great and he can operate the on/off button fine.

We have the same one as @RegberaDaisy. It definitely wouldn't be too bright, although maybe not bright enough depending on how particular your toddler is about seeing his books. The best part is it's cheap, so you're not out much if it doesn't work.

@Tanjowen: I recently purchased these and I love them!
Safety 1st LED Nightlight, 2 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009UQPSE8/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_AaDswbZWH3MBZ

1) it's LeD which means no scrambling to find a replacement bulb during nighttime routine.

2) there's no conventional bulb so the light bulb does not get hot. (Read no burning fear with mobile babies)

3) it shuts off by itself when it's light in the room! Note that it has to be pretty bright in the room for it to auto shut off.

4) price $7.99 for a 2 pack!

We have the same one as @torchwood and it's great. I would recommend checking out Target as they have a bunch of cute options for kids even if that exact one isn't available anymore.

We have one from target that plugs into a cord to charge but is otherwise portable. It's bright enough to see well when fully charged, but not nearly as bright as a lamp. It's shaped like a mushroom. I don't think the exact one is available anymore, but I've seen others. It's a Circo brand LED nightlight.

We recently moved and need a different lighting solution for our toddler. At our old house we left his lamp on at night (he likes to look at his books before falling asleep) but in his new room it's too bright because of the room configuration.

What night light so you use or suggest that could give just enough light to see? We have small wall plug-ins but they don't give off much light.
