@catlady: we attempted to transition to the bed right at 2 and it was a disaster. She just couldn't stay in bed. When we did t again later, around 2.5, it went way better. She might be mature enough now at almost 3 to get it and stay in bed.

We never did a little potty so leaving one in her room wouldn't work for us. So she wakes up and screams for us and Dh goes and takes her to the potty even though it's right outside her room. Id rather that than her realizing she could wander during the night.

I would just bite the bullet. 3 is old to still be in a crib and I'd personally rather get the transition over with before baby comes. The transition was a total non-issue for us, he was so used to being in the crib that it took him a long time to even realize he COULD get out.

@looch: That was our plan (gate or just lock her door) but I've heard horror stories about toddler night sleep going bad after the transition out of the crib. So partially just worried about that.

What if you put a small potty in the room, moved her to a toddler bed and then put a gate across the bedroom door?

My LO has been in a big bed for a while before potty training. We did not intend to night train soon, but ever since we potty trained she cries to let us know she has to go potty (even though honestly I would rather her pee in the pull up and we could all sleep!). She doesn't just get up and go by herself, so it really doesn't matter whether she is in the crib or bed. So if she is sleeping great in the crib, maybe you could just tell her to call you when she has to go?

But, I think most kids do outgrow the crib by around 3 anyway so I guess I would want to make that switch at least a few months before the baby anyway.

I am torn about when to potty train my LO for naps and nighttime. She was trained for daytime a couple months ago now and does great. She wakes dry more often than not in the morning, so I think she is ready. And when she does pee in her diaper in the morning, she gets upset (this usually happens when she is up before we can get to her).

The only problem is that she is still happy in her crib and sleeps extremely well in it, and I worried we will mess up her sleep by transitioning to a toddler bed. Also, her bedroom is on a different floor than ours, so having her in the crib keeps her safer and makes me worry less.

Any advice for this situation? She will be 3 in Oct, and we have another baby due in Dec (he will not need her crib). I'm just trying to plan out transitions now so we don't end up doing major transitions right before or right after LO2 gets here.
