When my son was going through a period of night terrors I read that it was a sign that he wasn't getting enough good sleep and his sleep cycles were screwy. What was recommended and seemed to help us were to A) make sure he had a good nap and B) gently wake him up about 30 mins or so into his sleep cycle then put him right back to bed. I read that this somehow prevents them from entering the wrong stage up sleep. It worked really well for us. Another thing that may help is to make sure he doesn't eat much of anything three hours before bed. Good luck. Night terrors are just awful and give Mommas such a helpless feeling.

Take them potty. I don't know why but the two kids I've had (my friends kid and my young sister) both got better after they peed. Our little guy was restless last night and a trip to the toilet helped. I don't know why and I'm not sure if it is universal but it is something to try.

I don't know what is going on but LO cried for 3 hours last (this?) night. He was having gas constantly too. DH is driving him around now fo try to get him to sleep. So maybe it wasn't a night terror.

Night terrors are awful. Like you, we never realize what's going on until they are out of their crib. Touching seems to make it worse. So sometimes we just lay them on capered floor and sit around them so they can't get to anything that can hurt them. Thankfully, our longest one was only 20 minutes. I can't imagine an hour. 20 minutes felt like eternity.

What do you during night terrors? I feel like we usually try to rock LO back to sleep and it ends up just being a disaster. He is hysterical and nothing helps. Then it seems he suddenly snaps out of it, wants to play a bit, and then can be rocked back to sleep.

I know you aren't supposed to so anything,
But usually we don't realize it's a night terror until we have already gotten him out of his crib. And his last so long that we couldn't just listen to him yell for an hour.
