@NorthStar: no big changes, she doesn't always nap the greatest so this could be a contribution, she turned 3 last month and still needs it but thinks she's too old for them.

Is she getting enough sleep overall or had any major life changes? Those can sometimes trigger them - our daughter had them when she was 18 months old and it took about 3 weeks for her to stop having them. I heard the same thing about not touching them and leaving them alone.

N has been doing it too. The only way to get him calm is hug him tightly and then he is too afarid to sleep for a while. I miss sleep.

We have battled night terrors/nightmares off an on with our toddler and they have returned with a vengeance this week. Every night at around 3 am she's "woken" up screaming, but when we go in there she's asleep just crying out. We've been told not to wake her I just rub her back and hope it calms her down. Anyone else have any tips on how to calm down a sleeping child? I feel so helpless but she never remembers in the morning when she wakes up.
