@anbanan15: I know this is a really old thread but I was just wondering what happened with this? I think my DD may be dealing with restless leg

@T-Mom: Yes. He said Hershey Med (which is more local to us) or CHOP do children sleep studies but preferred we went to CHOP since DS is already a patient there, to which I agreed.

@anbanan15: That sounds like the right move (to me, at least)... I hope you get some answers. Are you getting referred to a pediactric sleep center, such as one affiliated with a children's hopsital?

@Raindrop: @T-Mom: Pedi is referring him to a sleep study. Said he has never done this before for a child this age and wasn't even sure if they did them (I know they do). This pedi was actually mine and my brothers doctor so he has been around awhile :). Anyway he is concerned by the frequency of them and said it sounds like too much to be night terrors. Also the fact that DS never really settles. He said that the trouble getting to sleep may be unrelated.

@Raindrop: @T-Mom: I will let you ladies know what he says. Honestly at this point I would not mind a sleep study being ordered. I had sleep apnea and didn't sleep through te night until age 3 when I had my adenoids out. I used to be concerned with this with DS so I would very open to a sleep study. He does have reflux but is on high dose meds so I don't think it is reflux at this point (rambling again).

@T-Mom: Yes he seems to sleep walk or more like sleep run :) Thanks.

Finally asleep (I think). I figure the first waking will be in about 1-1.5 hours. Better get some zzzZzz's in :)

@anbanan15: oh man... Hang in there! Talk to your pediatrician. Maybe if thr ped doesn't have enough expertise you could consult a sleep specialist or something like that. They say that kids who have night terrors also can sleep walk.. Which it sounds like your DS is kind of doing..

*hugs* That sounds terrible!

Our LO has had "night terrors" since he was born. They have gotten better now that he is almost 14 months old. He only has them about once a week and he can usually go back to sleep on his own.

Good luck I hope you get some answers!

@T-Mom: They also sound like night terrors to me but the frequency really has me concerned. Last night, for example, he did the sit up waking thing 4 times in the early part of the night and the full on screaming running downstairs once at 5 am: night before that he had the full on screaming and running out of bed episode at 11p, 2:30a, and 6a and I'm sure the sitting up ones but can't remember. He is impossible to even get to sleep and always wakes up still tired and grumpy most of the day. I'm trying not to loose my cool, but after 2 years of this I feel so frustrated. Sorry for the vent...I've been trying for 2 hours to get him to sleep...and I expect tonight is doing to be a long night.

Wow, poor you and poor DS! It sounds like night terrors but not sure about the frequency ... DD had night terrors and sometimes they did actually happen at least twice in one night but not all night long. Talking to your ped about restless legs and night terrors sounds like a good idea! Hope you are able to figure it out!!

DS has always been a bad sleeper, with frequent night wakings, but we (ourselves and his doctors) always thought it was relate to either an FPIES reaction or lack of solids and needing to nurse to make up calories, however he has not nursed for 3 months and we are still having issues.

He frequently wakes up at night, every night, multiple times and not at regular intervals or patterns. Sometimes he wakes up and moans and wimpers, sits up and then thrashed around a little before falling back asleep. Other times he shoots up and out of bed SCREAMING as if being hurt, runs to the door and shuts it, then hits, kicks, and has what appears to be a temper tantrum. Sometime he goes all the way downstairs and does this at the front door. Touching him and/or talking to him makes it worse and it takes a little while for him to "snap" out of whatever it is. Once he does so he usually goes back to sleep but it takes a little for him to settle and he needs to be skin to skin to do so. They sound like night terrors but they happen ALL theoughtout the night and not just the first half which is generally when night terrors occur. I tried to search and saw some parents mentioned RLS (restless leg syndrome) and I sort of wonder because he often kicks his legs while trying to fall asleep or when he does these wakings. Anyone have experience with similar occurrences? We have his 2 year well baby tomorrow and I plan on discussing this issue. It has been ongoing and for far too long.
