@Giulia1977: I think you're right! I was thinking he's either scared or in pain, so I got him out of bed, but if it becomes a habit I'll have to let him cry

Hi! I am going through the same thing with my 18 month old!! And is a nightmare for us
In my case i think there are different factors: ear i fection that we just got over with, night terrors and more awareness of his powers. I explain my self ... I feel like he wakes up and knows that he can scream and get what he wants because i have been reaponding to him while he was sick thinking he was in pain. Last night i let him cry may be 2 minutes at 3 am and then again at 5 and he woke up happy at 7! So i think is just a matter of habit!

I'm puzzled... yesterday my 20 month old woke up at 5 am screaming hysterically and pointing at the kitchen. I thought he must be hungry because he ate very little for dinner, so after trying to get him to sleep for a while I gave him breakfast at 6:30 and he was up for the day.

Today he woke up at 4 AM, again screaming hysterically and demanding breakfast. He had a good dinner, so I doubt he was really hungry. And it seemed like he just woke up screaming. I feel like he wasn't quite awake and rational - half the time he was just screaming with his eyes closed, and the things that usually calm him down did nothing. But he did say yes when I asked if he wants water, so he was kind of awake.

Does this sound like a night terror? Or a nightmare? He is also getting over a tummy bug, so I wonder if his stomach hurts and he thinks he's hungry... whatever it is, I wish I knew how to make it better without creating a midnight breakfast habit!
