@Cherrybee: Didn't read every answer but I know you're already getting diapers. My son turned 5 last week and still wakes with a soaked diaper every morning. He wears size 5 which are snug but he doesn't complain. My pediatrician told me: night training is totally separate from daytime. Make it neutral as far as whether he wakes up dry or not. No issue at all. When he wakes up dry for 30 days straight that's when he is ready for nighttime underwear/training.

We were briefly waking him up around 10pm (when DH went to bed) to take him to pee, he would still wake up with a wet diaper about half the time. Our ped is not the least bit concerned about it. He has been wearing underwear during the day since about 20 mos.

I see you already got some but my son is 3.5 and he also wears a size 6 diaper to bed. His diaper is soaked when he wakes up!! You could always try putting one of those washable pee pad things under her (that they have in hospitals) so you can just wash that instead of her whole bed! Hope the diapers continue to work well!!

If you get to the point where she does try to go potty at night, you can use these Huggies diaper pants. They pull up and down but have the full absorbency of a diaper. We love these.

They make some pretty big nappies. There's a size 7 which I think goes up to around 40 pounds. We've had the same problem until recently and still haven't ditched them because most nights they're not needed, but if something does happen, it's a weekday and we have to do cleanup and still make it to work on time... not good.

Ever since we put a potty in DS's room (next to his bed), he has stayed dry. He seldomly gets up in the middle of the night, but I hear him get up a bunch of times after he goes to bed. Also, DH wakes him up to go pee before he goes to bed. We have a water proof mattress and sheets too. It doesn't help with his actually sheets, but it keeps the mattress safe. . I'm want to say, I waited for about 3 months of pretty constant dry nights before I said no more pull-ups.

So I was talking to someone who works for Huggies when we started training and pull ups are not intended for overnights because they are not supposed to hold a lot so the child can feel the wetness. We never used them overnights, we used the nappy pants instead.

@Cherrybee: Some friends woke their son nightly around 11 pm to use the toilet. They claimed he never really woke up, just used the toilet and went right back to sleep. I totally understand your hesitance to try that. My DD didn't stay dry overnight until she was 4.5. I had her in pull ups at first but went back to dispers because they're less expensive. I hope they continue to work for E!

@lamariniere: Great! I sourced some nappies in her size (I didn't know they did them) AND they WERE more effective than pull ups - she slept until 6.30am, waking naturally with a dry bed (and a huge nappy). Plus, the baby only woke once in the night - I feel AMAZING! Thank you.

Since she goes to bed so early maybe you can wake her to potty before you go to bed? Or even just change her? We did this for a while when DS was peeing through his nighttime diaper and it helped a lot.

@sunnyday: we started using pull ups when we started potty training because the idea was that she should try to keep them dry/go to the toilet if she woke. But she never has. I didn't realise they even did nappies in her size but I did source some today so I'm hoping they are more reliable.

We've never used pull ups, so pardon my stupid.

Does she get up at night sometimes on her own to use the potty or toilet? Do pull ups have a purpose at night if she's no where near night trained and you can't just use a diaper? Only reason I say is we went from diapers overnight to a few weeks of dry diapers to not using them and she uses toilet through night if needed now. Is it the on/off ease factor in the pull up or ?

My daughter is 3 and has been potty trained for a little over a year and still needs diapers at night. We use size 5 huggie overnights and even those fill up. I would definitely try specific overnight diapers.

We have nights like this. I don't get it. She will drink the same two nights and one wake up dry and the next leaks through her pull up. We limit liquids after 5, and make her go potty at least 2 times from when we get home, 5-5:15, till bed, 8.

Could you try some diaper liners to put in the pull up as well? I can't remember what they are called.

So there are two things that have to happen, one is that the body has to secrete a hormone or enzyme that makes less urine over night second. There's nothing you can do to speed this part up.

The second is that the action you want is that they wake up to go to the bathroom, not that they hold it, so I would suggest you wake to urinate, maybe around the time when you go to bed? I would try this on a weekend so as not to disrupt the sleep during the week too much and give you a little wiggle room.

@Cherrybee: our oldest isn't ready to night train either and has been wearing a night time pullup for a year now. Still wakes up 80% of the time with it super full in the morning.

If you are having leaks, can you just get one of the booster pads to put in there to soak up more pee? Or put a waterproof changing pad protector under her when she sleeps? Or an old fashioned rubber diaper cover over the pull up to contain leaks?

@brownepiano: does he go back to sleep easily afterwards? E only started STTN a couple of weeks before her 3rd birthday (5 months ago) and I'm terrified of breaking it - not least because she used to require warm milk to get her back to sleep again.

So this is slightly different because my son is usually night trained but tends to go through periods where he starts wetting the bed every night again. When this happens We don't let him have anything to drink after supper (and keep supper drinks light too). We also wake him up to pee before we go to bed. He never wakes up on his own either, but getting him up seems to do the trick every time we start having problems again. Since she's already in pullups maybe you could try that?

@lamariniere: I didn't know they did nappies that size! I thought pull ups were our only option. I will get some to try. I'm fairly sure E won't mind - she's not particularly interested in being a "big girl" as far as toileting goes - she would gladly go back to nappies full time if she could.

I have two ideas since we recently ran into this problem. First, I found that pull-ups really had to be in the crotch with the ruffles out to make sure there were no leaks. I don't think they are as forgiving as diapers as far as catching everything, so you have to be vigilant about how they are positioned. Once we really made sure it was perfectly in place, we didn't have leaks. Second, what about going back to diapers since it's just night time? I don't know if she would balk at the idea of wearing them, but I found that size 5 or 6 diapers tended to be more secure. Good luck! My DD just started refusing to wear her pull-ups to bed 3 nights ago and so far she hasn't had any accidents. We've also cut down on how much she drinks in the hour or so before bed, which has helped.

The last few weeks, E (3.5) has been waking up in the night in a soaking wet bed. Her night time pull up is leaking.

She has been potty trained for a year but we still have regular daytime accidents at home. I'm pretty sure she is peeing in her sleep, so unable to "night train". We have talked about getting up to pee and she understands, but she is waking up wet (not waking up then peeing). She's a big drinker; I've tried giving her a last drink an hr before bed and taking her to the toilet before bed (6pm) but it hasn't helped. Her pull up leads because it is full.

She's in the biggest pull ups they do. The other option is older child bed wetting pants but they are so expensive.

Any ideas? I'm tired of washing piss soaked bed linen every day. It soaks her pillow, her duvet, everything. Plus I'm tired. The baby is already up half the night teething, I could do without changing bed sheets in the night as well.
