Thanks guys!

I keep going back and forth on if he really needs the night time feeding or not. He's a good eater and I think he could make it up in the day time. But he is also with a nanny 3 days a week and this changes his nursing for those days.

I'll go gentle and see what happens.

I increased daytime feeding a at 6.5 months and let her keep the nighttime feedings until 7.5 months when I cut her off cold turkey. I left her to cry just a little bit and she went back to sleep and never woke up for a feeding in the middle of the night again. But because it happened so easily I imagine she was ready by herself and just needed a little push.

I have a 5.5m old and we increased daytime feeding amounts by increasing the hours between eating. I slowly started reducing the amount of time I nursed him at night by 3m. He was eating three times a night so we dropped in the order: second, first, and third. He actually dropped the second and the first once he was only nursing 5-7m.

I am not in a huge rush to drop the third because it is already such a relief to be down to just one feeding. We followed the "Baby Sleep Solution".

I night weaned at 9 months but he was usually only eating once by then. I decreased the time little by little and then stopped. I had tried around 7 months as well but he wasn't ready then. If he's gettng a lot of calories at night it could be causing him to eat less during he day so it's kind of a cycle

I think if he's eating a lot still then it's too early for night weaning unless you can get him to make up for it by eating more during the day. We didn't night wean until 17-18 months and it was easy to just send my husband in and tell her no milk right now. But at that point it was just for comfort.

We swapped night nursing for bottles out of my stash and slowly decreased ounces.

We didn't try night weaning until closer to 15 months, but DH would go in first for wakeups. I would go in if she was really upset and not settling. Her wakeups eventually started decreasing. We kept a 5/6am session for awhile and she began sttn the majority of nights at 20 mo.

My 8 month old nurses 2(a good night) 4 (bad night) times a night. 2 times it totally fine with me, 4 really isn't.

In a few weeks a have two weeks of late nights at work and would like to night wean before then, but I feel clueless on how to start.

He sleeps on a floor bed in his own room. He's pretty easy to get to sleep and wake ups are just to nurse and don't take long. But he really eats a lot when he nurses at night. They don't just feel like comfort.

If DH goes in to calm him he will go back to sleep for an hour or so but wake again to nurse.

Tell me your stories about night weaning your best fed older babies.
