@T.H.O.U.: we kicked the nursing to sleep habit when she was younger, thankfully. Interesting way of doing it, we may have to try that. Thank you for passing on what worked for you!

@MamaBehr: probably the way we need to go. We've done some night waking with him keeping her away from me but we probably give in too quickly. It's hard. :-(

What if you stopped going to her in the middle of the night, just DH. There are different expectations when Daddy picks up a LO and a Mommy. She knows she won't get milk from him! I feel like that's how we started to night wean DD.

We did a version of sleep training around 13-14 months. We changed up our night routine and also night weaned. Instead of nursing to sleep, we would rock her and then put her in her crib and rub her back. Then we had two rules, we would stay in her room as long as she was laying down nicely. If she stood up, we immediately would walk out. Second rule, we would not pick her up until morning. I knew that if I picked her up, all she would want to do was to eat.

There were a bit of tears while we got adjusted but she never cried herself to sleep or was ever worried about us not being there.

We're currently in toddler sleep hell and I've decided we need to night wean. Currently, when she cries for us, we go to her and either pat her back and shush or rock her. If she won't be soothed by rocking, I feed her. If I don't feed her and she wants me, tantrum.

I need tips on how to get past these middle of the night tantrums. It's so easy to just feed her because she goes right back to sleep. I really wish I had night weaned when she was younger now. :-(

We won't do CIO. I do have a very willing husband who will do anything it takes to to get through this, though.
