I think E may have just started getting them this week at almost 13 months? Twice in the past week he's woken up at a random time in the middle of the night screaming. When we take him out of his crib it takes a long time to calm him down. Last night he didn't want to lay down for almost half an hour because he seemed scared of going back to sleep :( Any other time he wakes up in the middle of the night, even if he's crying, he calms as soon as DH or I walk into the room
.@BabyBoecksMom:Hmmm that sounds like what we're experiencing. Did you just talk to her to console without picking her up?

@locavore_mama: Crazy, this week my LO had a nightmare or something she saw in the room in the dark scared the crap out of her. She woke up and looked towards our humidifier and started screaming and jumped on top of DH. I had to cuddle her and tell her it was okay but she was freaked out. It happened one more time that same night.

It was around 20 months when it started i think.. Right before a trip to Asia. And she continued to have them while we were there.. And on the plane... Sorry you are going through this... We heard everything from plunging her feet into cold water, talking sternly, or letting her cry it out and eventually just let her cry while holding her (or trying) and it would last maybe 30 min. ETA it went on for a few months but she still periodically has them.. She had one a few months ago after a really tiring day!

She started to have night terrors around a year old. We could tell they were night terrors and not nightmares because she was out of it. Like, she had her eyes open but it was a blank stare. The more we tried to hold her and console her, the worse she was. We had to just talk to her w/o touching her until she snapped out of it, and then she would just pass back out.

@locavore_mama: i think around 18 months is a popular age for babies to go through this phase. I know there are so many posts I have commented about this happening and they are all around 18 months. My LO, who was an awesome/calm/peaceful sleeper, went through this and I'm pretty sure it was related to a developmental leap and separation anxiety issues. I know Mrs. Pen went through the same thing. It resolved itself after a few weeks and she went back to sleeping normally. At this time she became super attached to her lovey

I feel like C had one last night. She woke up at 1am SCREAMING and went back to sleep after a cuddle and a drink of water. She was awake for at least 30 minutes though.

The last two nights LO has been waking up in absolute terror. Wednesday night she woke up at 3am; DH went to get her and she was inconsolable. He asked her if she had a bad dream and she said "yeah" then nuzzled in and hung on SO tight to him. He tried for 30 minutes to put her back down but she wouldn't let him. Freaking out the instant he released his hold. Finally he brought her into bed with us.

Last night she woke up after sleeping for just an hour. She was flipping out, DH went in to get her and she immediately clamored to the corner of her crib and wouldn't let him pick her up. She didn't calm down until I came in and held her. I think that really hurt his feelings. :(

When did your LO start getting night mares or Terrors?

LO is almost 18 months.
