@Shimmer: Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately my husband was away last night, so I ended up waking him up with a call around 4 am. It helped a little. Thankfully he is really good when these happen.

@aprk: they come usually come in spurts but we have yet to figure out what really triggers them. They do tend to have a common theme of being "attacked" by either spiders or some other bug.

I have them sometimes, and I've found that meditating before bed can help. There's a Youtube clip called "One moment meditation" that helps to clear your mind of all the panic-inducing thoughts pretty quickly once you get the hang of using it. I've also reduced how much time I'm spending on the computer/phone right before bed to give my brain a chance to slow down.

I've also enlisted the help of DH. I do much better with coping through the anxiety if he's involved and knows what to say or do. He knows that telling me to calm down won't help a bit, but if I'm upset or anxious, just holding me until I can talk it out helps tremendously. You'll have to figure out what works best for you, but if DH is on the same page, you can come to a resolution faster sometimes.

P.S. There are TONS of meditation podcasts in the iTunes store for free that I've found to be very soothing. I prefer the non-guided meditation because the people's voices can be distracting to me personally with guided meditation.

@sorrycharlie: Interesting. I notice that yesterday I was anxious about falling asleep before I even went to bed so I wonder if that added to it. Good luck to us both!

I just thought of something - I'm not sure if this will help you, but part of my problem was that if I couldn't stay or fall asleep, I was awake, which led to a lot more time to create anxiety for myself. I started keeping our bedroom window a/c on 60 (I know..freezing) but with a blanket, it keeps me asleep better. I've actually tested it out by putting it on 64, even, and I have an awful night. I've come to realize that my anxiety is a lot less when it's on 60...I know that's *so* bizarre, but it's worth a shot?

I haven't but my husband gets them. No suggestions for what to do though. He doesn't usually remember them if that helps.

I've been having nightly anxiety attacks (33 weeks). I am up all night getting myself worked up about everything and anything, but I unfortunately don't have any good advice. It's awful. Just wanted you to know you aren't alone!

Before getting pregnant, every so often I would wake up in the middle of the night with a (usually mild) panic attack. I haven't gotten one in a while, until tonight at 7 weeks. It seems like this one was worse, and I haven't been able to go back to sleep: my chest constricts and I just feel freaked out when I try to lay down. Ive tried to fall asleep on the couch, but it happens again as soon as I am about to sleep. I've been up for 3 hours now.

Anybody else experience panic attacks while pregnant (or not)? Any remedies or coping mechanisms that worked for you?
