I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain! I know where you're coming from. It was a nearly 2.5m ordeal for me before it got any better.

What really helped for me was a tip my LC had. It is called a assymetric latch. That way LO didn't squeeze the middle of my nipples to badly and that really helped my nipples heal. (http://kellymom.com/ages/newborn/bf-basics/latch-resources/ - sorry if you already know all of that). And she recommend using Ibuprofen (400) for a couple of days and always take LO off when it felt uncomfortable and start over. Took about 2w and then things were better.

Also have you ruled out thrush? Mrs. Pen just did a blog post on that (http://www.hellobee.com/2014/04/01/breastfeeding-and-thrush/).

Yes it pretty much feels like soreness from overuse.

In the past 5 days or so, I have started to feel a painful tingling sensation a minute or two after I start to nurse or pump. It is sharper in the side I'm *not* nursing on. It lasts for maybe 20-30 seconds, and I think it is my letdown but I'm not sure.

To add insult to injury, I just pumped for 25 mins and got... 1 oz. I don't understand the variability in my pumping yield. It doesn't even seem to correspond to time of day. Yesterday morning at the exact same time I got 7 oz.

Is it the same sort of pain? Like just soreness from constant use, more or less? Or is it a burning, itchy pain? Or a throbbing pain?

My nipple pain is back.

It was horrible in the hospital, and I spent a few weeks alternating between nursing and pumping.

At 12 days old, my son had his lip tie lasered. I had pumped for two days straight before the procedure, and it was immediately easier to nurse. I started nursing through the day and pumping three times at night. I did that for a week.

This weekend, we traveled to a funeral. I nursed straight through the road trip, 11 times. We came home and I pumped twice (and nursed once) during the night.

Now my nipples are sore and last night I yelped during a latch for the first time since his lip tie procedure.

It almost feels like now that he's older, he has a stronger suck to offset the benefits of having a bigger mouth.

Has anyone experienced something like this? Any suggestions? I already have an rx cream from my doctor, and yesterday I started using gel pads again but they only helped for one session.

Ugh. I hate everything about this.
