@2littlepumpkins: total bs. I'm glad I called. No one even mentioned the cash rate. I would have opted to just pay at the get-go. I feel badly for people who aren't aware, get a bill, and just pay it thinking they have to

@Littlebit7:    That's bs! I hope you get it reduced!

I'm not sure what I'm paying. I just had blood drawn for it on the 8th and the results are in but I haven't been billed yet.

This is timely
I just got my eob back for the Natera nipt test. It was "covered" since I am AMA. They billed $8000, my insurance covered 92%, so I'm left with $650 and change. We have a hdhp. So I called my doc. They referred me to billing who referred me to a natera rep who called me back right away. I explained the sitch and she basically said, yep with hdhp that's how it is. "But we do offer a cash rate for people whose insurers don't cover it". But she was like well you'll surely meet your deductible with this, right?" Nope. Sure won't. So then I was like "so basically if we hadn't billed insurance at all I'd be paying $200???"

Long story short, Im going to call her when I get an actual bill from natera. It won't go towards my deductibe, i can use my HSA, and it will only be $200
So crazy

Conversely, in 2014 with my first with oxford, I wasn't AMA and paid nothing for the Harmony test.

With my first two, I did MateniT21 and we were billed for the full amount, but only had to pay $200. With my third, my office switched to Verifi. I was told that the max amount would be $100, but I haven't received a bill (test was done last October).

We also did Progeniti and I think the max out of pocket was $100 or $200. Our insurance company told me that they wouldn't cover the test but I was never billed for anything.

That's funny I had one done just over a year ago, their special was $100 but they never billed me for it either.

I did the counsyl NIPT and was told (by the MFM) it would be $200 OOP once insurance rejected the claim, but in the end they didn't charge us anything. They billed insurance $750, insurance paid $0, then counsyl gave us an "adjustment" of -$750. I never asked for payment assistance or anything.

We did the Harmony test (the one test our practice contracts with) and had ~$150 out of pocket deal. HOWEVER, my OB did tell me that several of the NIPT companies are seeking insurance approval for non-high risk pregnancies and are discontinuing these deals, so I would definitely get confirmation of the coverage before agreeing to the test. We got in just under the wire with the Harmony - I think the deal was expected to expire the month after we did our test (in January).

VisibiliT, $120 cap that went towards your deductible.

ETA: This was a deal my doctor had negotiated for her patients. She told me it highly varies between practices.

We did Verifi with our last pregnancy and would like to do NIPT with this pregnancy as well...Verifi (I think they changed the name now?) had an out of pocket max of $150 if insurance didn't cover (which mine won't, since I'm not 35 or high risk). They never actually sent me any bill, though. Anyways.

Crowd sourcing to see what testing anyone else did, and what the out of pocket guarantee (if any) was? Thanks!
