I also did not have an appetite after giving birth and my mom would force me to eat. My appetite didn't come back, really, until maybe 2 months postpartum. During that time I would just force myself to eat something, anything, when it seemed appropriate (ie. morning, lunch, afternoon).

@chopsuey119: Not really. I am going to go in and talk to my midwife next week when I go in for my 6 week pp appointment. I hope she can help me out at least a little.

@mrs. wagon: Maybe an alarm is a good idea for me. Having some kind of reminder might be the catalyst I need to get up and do something. I think part of the issue might be that we never seem to have anything small and quick around because DH devours any and all snacks.

@highwire: I am a military spouse and we live in the UK. The mental health clinic at the base hospital is unwilling or unable to treat dependents so they will not help me. They also seem to have a bad attitude about PPD in general. I have a referral to see a British doctor off base but the offices around the area are in a dispute with Tricare and are not seeing the patients from the base right now. It's kind of a vicious cycle. If you're not suicidal or homicidal, they don't care.

Having no appetite sounds like a very obvious symptom of the depression you said you were dealing with. I'm so sorry that is happening, but I think it is a common symptom with any kind of depression.

There should be some free clinics available. If you don't mind sharing, what is going to happen in the near future where you won't have access to help? We want you to be able to get the support you need!

I had zero appetite post delivery and this is how I lost the baby weight. I was breastfeeding and I just could NOT get myself to eat. Thankfully I had my mom on hand who was basically force feeding me. In our culture you have to eat soup for every single meal to help you heal and provide milk for the baby. So she had three pots of three kinds of soups on the stove at all times. I think without her I would have gotten really sick as well.

Can you go to the store and stock up on interesting-looking snacks, a BIG variety, and stash them everywhere? Then maybe set an alarm for every 2 hours and when the alarm goes off, eat one serving of one snack? Not sure how your mood is in terms of following that kind of regimen, but I feel like that's something that could have worked for me.

I hope you can get some sort of help/support with this... I know it must be so difficult to deal with on top of the PPD! Keep us updated please!

I didn't have any help, so it was up to my husband to make sure I ate something those first weeks. We kept the fridge and freezer stocked with things I could eat quickly and we ate a lot of pasta and soup.
What about keeping some food near the couch? Pack up a basket of granola bars, dried fruit, nuts, anything and just keep it near you. Another idea is bottled water, stash them around the house so you constantly see them.
Hope you feel better soon.

@zippylef: Oh no. I think you should talk to a dietician or doctor. If you happen to live in Ontario, Canada like I do, call 1-877-510-5102 to talk with a registered dietitian for free.

Do you have someone helping you?
I didn't really have an appetite post birth either. But my mom cooked up a storm and made me eat 3 large meals a day!

I've been struggling with making myself eat since LO was born. I have zero appetite or motivation to eat anything. I have days where I eat next to nothing. For example, yesterday I had 2 poptarts. Thats it. The day before, I had some Skittles and a sandwich. It's not that I don't get hungry, because I do, it's just that I have no motivation to eat. LO will be napping and I'll have time but I usually choose to just lay on the couch.

I'm reasonably sure that this is a side effect of my PPD, but I'm in a bad situation where I will not be able to get help for it in the near future. I'm making myself sick and I don't know what to do. It's gotten to the point where I have constant headaches and diarrhea from it. I've been trying to at least keep myself hydrated but I find even that a chore.

This is not how I intended to loose the pregnancy weight. I don't know what to do...
