That's terrible! I miscarried at 9.5 weeks (baby stopped growing around 7), and it was not like that. It was heavier bleeding than a period, and it hurt like hell, but it wasn't scary. I'd really like to know what happened there.

@Ashleigh3388: wow that sounds really scary! And really similar to meh experience (although I was 12 weeks when I miscarried), but nobody said anything to me about how dilated I was. But I was shocked at how much blood there was! I hope you can get some answers as to what happened.

I thought it was weird too,but i kept remembering him saying that there wasn't much there so it would just be like a normal period just a little longer and heavier. Then when it happened it scared me. There was so much blood. I have my follow up on the 6th and plan on asking him what happened and why. I think there was more in there then he thought. I know my progesterone wasn't high enough for a viable pregnancy but at the same time I want to know what it was (molar, BO, fetal demise, etc) so I can plan ahead for next time.
I feel better today then I have been. I'm able to walk a little better but standing up hurts. I don't have much bleeding at all. I would like to go back to work but I still get light headed if I stand to long. I know it will be a process but I don't feel as though I was properly informed of the situation at all,

@Ashleigh3388: Wow, that sounds horrific. I am so so sorry. To be honest, I am surprised your doctor wasn't more proactive in getting your D&C scheduled (unless you declined it.)
My experience was very different because it was a scheduled D&C and I hadn't started bleeding yet. I imagine my cervix had to be dilated (not sure how much.)
I hope you aren't in too much pain and you are healing well (both physically and emotionally.)

UPDATE:

Tuesday (almost 2 weeks after DX) I still hadn't started bleeding or anything. I called the Dr because I was having intense cramping but nothing coming from it. They called in a prescription for Tylenol 3. She said to continue to wait as my numbers were falling, but slowly. (At this point they've fallen from 52,000 to 30,000). Wednesday was a normal day, no pain. nothing. Decided to take a bath after getting my LO down for bed. I got up to get out of the tub, felt something and immediatly started gushing blood. This went on for 3 hours. At one point I got light headed and dizzy, walked out of the bathroom and passed out on the floor. MyDH took me to the ER. I went through 3 pairs of pants in the waiting room. They finally got me back. Gave me a shot of zofran and morphine. They started IV fluids.
The Dr told me he needed to do a pelvic exam to see where all the blood was coming from. OMG that was terrible. He had to use a suction machine off the wall to get the blood out enough for him to see anything. (Worst pain of my life!!) Then he told me I was dilated to roughly a 7. He needed to call in the on-call OB. She came down, told me she was thinking of waiting to see if it would pass before continuing on to a D&C. I told her the other dr used the suction machine thing. She said she wanted to take a look, then got up, said she was going to book an OR. a few minutes later they came in and decided they couldn't put me under general anesthesia because of an allergic reaction. He said he would lightly sedate me, then the OB would numb me on both sides of my cervix. Then I was out. They sent me home with Hydrocodone, Motrin 1800s (i think?), and methergine.

Now I am worried about Ashermans Syndrome. I don't think she had to dilate me, as i was already at a 7, but the suction scares me. I know it had to be done, as i was bleeding so much and had already lost so much blood.

Anyways, long story short, does this sound normal? Was your experience similar?

I'm sorry you're going through this. I went through the same thing just shy of 8 weeks. I had doubling HCG in the 50K range, tons of pregnancy symptoms but an empty sac. My doc dxed it as a blighted ovum, and I had a d&C the next day. It was an easy procedure and the pregnancy symptoms went away almost instantaneously. I chose surgery b/c my body showed no sign of recognizing the pregnancy had failed.

This happened to me with my last miscarriage although my betas were much lower. They couldn't find anything on the ultrasound at all except thick lining at almost 7 weeks. They wanted to give me methotrexate assuming it was ectopic except that they couldn't see it in a tube either. I asked them to give my body a week to figure it out and I started miscarrying naturally on my own. I felt very pregnant the whole time. Sorry you are going through this.

Thank you all so much. Trying to wrap my head around it has been the hardest part. I love that my doctor is doing so many blood tests and He's slow to do D&C or any surgical intervention. He knows how long we've been trying and pointed out that now we know we can get pregnant with out help. I just feel so pregnant all the symptoms are still strong (which is making this that much harder). I would like to just be done with it. To me it sounds like a horrible thing to say but there was nothing on the ultrasound. No pole, no baby, not even a sac. If it have been gone long enough to absorb all of that, then shouldn't my levels be lower? After a lot of research (my hub took away my internet because I wasn't sleeping) I think the problem is the low progesterone. I go back on Monday and hopefully he will have some answers for me

I'm so aorry-I think they call it a missed moscarriage? My numbers indicated everything was fine until 12 weeks and then suddenly I bled out. But there was no tissue-my de said the body will absorb it....which may be why your HCG is so high? I'm sorry youre in this situation. I have a blood clotting disorder that causes problems in the first tri-if you get a blood panel, they'll check for that!

@Ashleigh3388: I'm so sorry this is happening. Something slightly similar happened to me.

We went for our second US and after seeing the baby at 7w6d there was nothing there. I couldn't understand how that could be possible and had a hard time wrapping my mind around it. I was told that early in a pregnancy your body can reabsorb the tissue. We learned our baby had stopped growing at about 8 weeks. I had a D&C. We did learn after the surgery that it was in fact a molar pregnancy (partial, not complete). I never had Hcg tested until after so I'm not sure how high my levels actually were but from research people's levels can be in the hundreds of thousands.

Again, I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's so very sad and scary. Please wall me or ask if you have any questions about molar pregnancy. I've done lots of research. Lots of good thoughts and prayers for you

Sometimes your body just doesn't get the memo that something's gone wrong. I got all the way to 11 weeks (after several healthy scans) and I still had no signs that the baby had died.. hence a d&c.

I really hope that they've checked your tubes for an ectopic pregnancy - I'd be asking for lots of questions and repeats with labwork. I'm sorry for what's going on. x
