I'm not having a shower by choice (I hate going to them so I don't want to subject my friends and family to attend one for me) but I did make a registry on Amazon. I really just used it as a shopping list for us, but a couple of people asked if we had one so I directed them to it.

By the time they asked, though, there was hardly anything left on it. We bought all the big stuff ourselves.

I would do an amazon one just for the registry completion discount, and if someone asks, refer them there. :)

I would do a registry so that you can get things at a discount later. Also, people can look for your registry even if you don't have a shower. I've done that for buying gifts before.

I didn't have a registry ( they aren't common around here). Instead I told my sister a few things I needed and she spread the word to anyone who asked. It worked out fine!

My dad had me make another registry even after my shower because random people came out of the woodwork to buy gifts. Also, even if not many people find it, you can take advantage of completion discounts on your registry after the date you list has passed!

I think I still would-- that way it's there if someone wants to buy you stuff, plus you get a completion discount anyway. (For example at Buy Buy Baby you get 20% off everything on your registry, I think, instead of having to use their single item 20% off coupons). Plus it's a good way to keep track of the things you want/need.

I would do a private wish list on Amazon and share it with anyone who wants gift suggestions.

I would probably make a registry on Amazon or BRU (wherever you plan to buy things) just to get the completion discount and to give people ideas if they need them.

I would still register, because even if you don't get them all in gifts, you usually get 10% off all the items and if they are all things you need, it's worth the savings.

We also had no shower (my choice) but I made a registry to keep track of things that I wanted to buy, so there's no reason not to do it. People still found it and bought and sent us things from it.

A registry alternative might be to make a baby wish list on Amazon or something, and tell people when they ask about gifts that it's your running list of what still need to buy if they want to look at it for ideas, and take things off as you receive them.

I am pretty sure I will not be having a shower, I am sort of sad about it but also think it's probably better that way. I am trying to decide if or when I should register in light of not doing a shower.

I really don't want to come off as gift grabby and I am very thankful that due to some very generous hand me downs and offers to borrow gear that we need very little although there are certainly some things we need. There are some people who will buy gifts regardless but I don't know if I should leave them to their own devices. Honestly, I am a little sad about the idea of having a registry that just forever sits unused by anyone. I am 19 weeks now and we already know the sex of the baby. Any thoughts?
