I only had blood work done to confirm because of a prior miscarriage, otherwise they wouldn't have prescribed it. No worries, it's perfectly normal not to have any done.

I had to come in and have blood drawn as soon as my HPT was positive. They called and confirmed and then scheduled my 6w u/s. I didn't actually see my doctor until about 12w.

It's not standard in my office, but I called and asked if I could get a blood test just to be sure. That was all it was, no follow up to see if my levels had duplicated. I just wanted medical confirmation I was in fact pregnant!

Plus betas cause a lot of stress...They make you go every 2 days (RE clinic) to make sure levels are doubling properly...Mine always sucked, so I was content this time to not deal with it. Just trust your home hpts:).

@MrsCastro: I think it's the norm for RE/fertility clinics to confirm with betas at the time of the home bfp. I was scheduled for 14dpo betas when seeing an RE, but got pg on our own and just scheduled our first appt/ultrasound for 7 weeks. So I think it's pretty normal that they don't want to see you yet for bloodwork:)

If you want blood work you can go to an independent lab and request a blood pregnancy test! I did that. But, I don't think it's necessary.

I got a ton of bloodwork done (plus urine sample) during my first appointment at 8 weeks. They told me that a HPT is pretty accurate, and basically the same test they do to confirm pregnancies, so if I got a positive at home, I was pregnant, and they didn't need to do anything additional to confirm it.

but i guess 5 HPT of already done that, thanks ladies....

I didn't have any blood work until they did the genetic testing. Like @Pipers Mommy: said, they can just use the ultrasound to figure out the age of the baby.

my first round of blood work was at 12 weeks for first round of genetic testing

My MD uses the U/S at 8 weeks and heart rate to measure viability of the fetus.

I went to my regular doctor for bloodwork first and then once it was confirmed he refferred me to an OB and they did lots of bloodwork too. I didnt have an OB to call so that was my only option plus I really needed to hear it from a professional that I was really pregnant because I was kind of in shock

Yup, most doctor's do this these days. Home pregnancy tests are so reliable now that they really don't need to confirm the pregnancy. I did have blood work right away with this pregnancy, but that was only because I had a prior miscarriage so they wanted to make sure my levels were increasing as they should.

home pregnancy tests are so accurate now that most doctor's don't require any sort of confirmation blood work. if you've gotten several positive hpt's, it's assumed you're pregnant, and you don't need to be seen until your first appointment. you'll get all kinds of blood work done at 8 weeks though!

I assume it varies from practice to practice, but for what it's worth I did get a lot of blood work done at my first 8 week appointment, so maybe (like at my practice), they just don't want to do bring you in JUST for blood work.

So i just called to make our first apt. i asked if i needed to go in and do bloodwork to confirm or anything, and she said no that they would just see me at the 8 week apt...

i am a little sad, i guess i wanted an actual hospital confirmation, is this the standard now???
