@shopaholic: Please don't use the suppositories unless the doctor is concerned. An EBF baby can go up to 21 days with out a BM according to the LC because breast milk is 90% bio available (digestable)

Thanks everyone! Still no bm - Day 12? I'll call the ped if he still doesn't go before 4pm today. The new ped office wouldn't give any advice until they see him.

M was like this and would OFTEN go 2 weeks without pooping. Multiple times our ped assured us that this was okay and actually common for breastfed babies. They weren't worried at all. She didn't start to poop regularly until we started solids.

They did say that if she seemed visibly uncomfortable I could try and use a rectal thermometer or even a lubed up q tip to get things moving. A couple times I used coconut oil on the tip of a q tip and it worked just fine. But she never seemed uncomfortable.

He's just holding on to all those BM nutrients! I wouldn't sorry.

@shopaholic: I'd call the ped and ask their advice. Ours didn't want us using anything unless he seemed fussy/uncomfortable.

I will say that our ped is totally non-alarmist and will often go the natural route before resorting to meds of any kind. Something I appreciate but definitely not for everyone. :)
He told me that breastfed babes often absorb a good deal of the nutrients from breastmilk, especially if their going through a growth spurt and that it's not uncommon to go up to 14 days (omg) without a bowel movement, just make sure there are enough wet diapers.

@shopaholic: go for the suppositories. 10 days is a long time! You could call your nurse and ask. But they are pretty easy to use and doing it once won't make them habit forming.

@shopaholic: I *just* went through this with my 4 months old. I called the Ped on day 7 and they recommended 4 oz of juice (only prune or pear). I was soooo hesitant to try it, since LO is EBF, but finally the morning of day 9, I tried it. Nothing happened. Farts were also horrible (still are) for an ebf baby.

On day 10, I went in to the ped and they gave half a glycerine suppository and told me to give the other half if nothing happened within 6 hours. He also said he will let an ebf baby go 7 days without pooping (can be normal), but after that, he likes to get things moving, and recommended 4 oz juice PLUS 4 oz water a day on top of regular nursing until bms were more often.

Unfortunately, LO hates juice with a passion and would have horrible vomits afterward, so I haven't been great about doing it daily. Instead, I've been trying this stuff, and it does usually produce a bm within 24 hours if I do it 2x a day. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwiQsKvN4eDJAhVEVz4KHWPmBu0QFggbMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FMommys-Bliss-Constipation-Fluid-Ounce%2Fdp%2FB00R42HK64&usg=AFQjCNGlq583zLDsbWy8_4LSaQCCmylHkg&sig2=ujsxKcU4xjeY2TfkLkb8_A&bvm=bv.110151844,d.cWw

My LO goes about once every 7-8 days and since it's not hard little balls, I figure she'll go when it's time. Yesterday, she went a little so when I was changing her, I brought her legs up and gently massaged her tummy which caused a big ol' poo-splosion. Maybe you could try that?

@shopaholic: this is giving me flashbacks! J was like this and it made me crazy. The ped assured me that it was normal (especially for breastfed babies). I never resorted to a suppository, our pediatrician said it wasn't necessary.
For a stretch J would go once a week if that. Even now he's not an every day kid.

My older daughter would often go 12+ days with no BM. Aside from all the things you said, the only other thing I did was lots of warm baths to help relax her when she was fussy with gas. She always ended up going on her own, it just took time

Pediatric glycerin suppositories at your local drugstore. For a litte baby the NICU taught me to break off about 1/3 or 1/2 of one and just use that much as they're designed for toddlers and kids.

DS once went for about 10 days. Oh the gas...smelled so bad! Is he a sleepy baby? I would try cycling legs and doing some more tummy time.

Sorry I just reread and saw you did all of that (so unhelpful of me). When I went to my ped he wasn't concerned...the next day he pooped...all the poop.

Baby K (3m) has had one teeny BM in 9 days. I've given probiotics, gripe water, even prune juice. His farts are horrendous! We've dove bicycles, tummy massage. Idk what else to do. With each day going by, I feel like his gas gets worse and worse smelling and he's increasingly fussy. I hate our new ped office, so I'm hesitant to take him in. Any tips?
