@irene: She wanted to try on all the shoes. It was hilarious. I didn't think to ask why it was so late, but I think I figured it out. They originally wanted to schedule her when I would be 38 weeks pregnant but instead squeezed her in a few weeks early. My guess is because she was the last one to sign up for that day she got scheduled last. That I am perfectly okay with.

@Ms. RV: I am so happy to hear that it went well for you! You crack me up that when she complained she was hungry you took her shoe shopping-- Haha! Nothing can't be fixed with new shoes  Hope your DD is doing fine as well with her tubes!

Did you get to ask why was this scheduled so late in the day? I almost felt a need to file a complaint about it if I were you -- I don't care if the team of specialists have to fly in from Mars, they need to understand they should never schedule something so late for a young child in the future.

@Ms. RV: Sounds like she did great! Amazing that she could make it all day until such a late appointment in good spirits. Nice to hear the update, and glad it went well.

@irene: @Mrs Green Grass: She was a total champ. She started to complain that she was hungry around lunch so we took her shoe shopping at Kohl's to distract her. She didn't want to eat or drink after she woke up, but she tore through chicken nuggets once we got home at 6:30. They did say her appointment was unusually late.

How’d it go? Our tubes appt was morning and the ny eating was so tough! He ate all day long starting about an hour after we got home though. And zero ear infections this winter! 🙌🏻

@Ms. RV: It is as if the tubes itself is not a big enough deal they have to make you starve your child until late afternoon. Sending good thoughts and let us know how it goes!

@Ms. RV: I also got super angry because research suggests that anesthesia is being overly cautious with those recommendations. Like, its probably not even necessary.

Anyway- I'm sorry. I know how nerve wracking these things are, and a crappy time just makes it worse. Hopefully it goes very smoothly, and tomorrow evening you can relax however you do that (for me it was too much wine and halloween candy)

@luckygirl: Unfortunately it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow or else we would take her to the zoo (near the hospital, but 45 to 60 minutes from home). OH and I are going to take turns eating upstairs where she can't see us.

@irene: @Silva: I was shocked at the time. I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and thinking they have to wait for a certain anesthesiologist team since she has a mild heart defect. Like maybe they want a more specialized team? Probably not but in my mind that makes me less annoyed so I am just going to believe that is the reason.

I'm so sorry. That is a dumb surgery time for a small child. I'm mad about it for you. We find out when our next surgery time is on Thursday or Friday and I"m so nervous.
We had a 10:30 surgery when my son was 14 months (that was arrival time, he went under probably around 12:30. he was actually scheduled for noon arrival, but they had a last minute cancellation and called us in early). It was hard.
We woke him up at 11:30 and gave him a bottle (he didn't typically get anything overnight). We also did popsicles. I basically force fed him apple juice right up until I had to stop (they told us to stop everything except for water at 8:30). Then just distraction. We did a stroller walk.
Once we got to the hospital there was enough going on that he was okay.

it will be over and you will make it through! I had lots of pouches on hand when he woke up because I thought his throat might be sore. He sucked down 4 of them faster than I could believe.

Hmm I can't help but point out how would the doc schedule you at THAT time? We had to do tubes when DS was 18 months or so, and there was not even a question we were scheduled in at 7am (we had to arrive the hospital for anesthesia and all the good stuff at 5:30am). So he only needed to fast between midnight until after surgery, which would be 9am the most. They knew they were dealing with a child and they won't schedule for something in the afternoon. This is just quite surprising...

Good luck! I hope the apple juice popsicles will do the trick for you --

Definitely distraction! Getting out of the house, and/or watching TV, or whatever works for her. We've had some mid-day appointments DS had to fast for, and I was often surprised at how he barely noticed he hadn't eaten anything. Being at the hospital can be a distraction itself. And I'm sure you would think of this, but we also wouldn't eat anything in front of him. Thinking about you and hoping the procedure and all goes well tomorrow!

@crazydoglady: Oh that is a good idea! I will have to get creative in making them as our popsicle set is in offsite storage. Maybe I can just freeze one of the juice boxes.

DD is going for ear tubes tomorrow. She is only allowed apple juice, water, and gatorade from midnight until after her procedure. We have to be at the hospital at 2:45 and she likely won't go under until 4:00.

Tips on getting through a day without eating??? She ate a big dinner, and we are trying to keep her up later tonight so she sleeps late tomorrow.
